Stewart Manor
Can anyone provide any info on Stewart Manor? I have a few friends that moved there. I never even heard of it until recently. (I'm originally from Queens.) It seems to be very charming, but I've heard quite a few negative things about the school system, even though it has a Garden City zip code.

Stewart Manor is very charming, indeed. It was developed by the same people who built Garden City next door.

The reason that you never heard about Stewart Manor until recently is because Stewart Manor is one of those villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the village name as part of their mailing address.
For those who may not be familiar with Stewart Manor:
Stewart Manor is a village (incorporated in 1927) in the northwest section of the Town of Hempstead, in the west part of Nassau County.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Stewart Manor in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Village of New Hyde Park; on the east by the Village of Garden City; on the south by the Hamlet of Franklin Square; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Elmont and the Village of Floral Park.
Stewart Manor is one of those villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the village name as part of their mailing address: places in the Village of Stewart Manor have a "Garden City, NY 11530 and "Franklin Square, NY 11010" mailing address.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

Stewart Manor is a tiny little village that is served primarily by the Elmont School District except for 1-2 blocks which goes to Garden City Schools. A lot of parents send their kids to St. Anne's for elementary school.
It is well kept. Village stays on top of things. Has its own train station, but it is not a main stop. All in all, a very nice place to live.

I grew up in Floral Park which was right next door. Stewart Manor is a nice little town. Nice tree lined streets. A few streets are real narrow but overall its a nice quiet area with a variety of well kept homes. From a previous poster, I did not know that it was zoned mostly for Elmont Schools. At high school level, I assume students would go to Sewanhaka High School down the road. There is a small elementary school called the Covert Avenue school I believe. Not sure if there is a middle school anywhere but I guess if the Covert Avenue School (which ironically I think is on stewart avenue) goes up to 6th grade, Sewanhaka is 7-12. Since there are other schools in the Sewanhaka school district, there is always a chance students could transfer to one of the other schools if they had good reason.

I used to pass by that everyday. I knew it was something obvious like that. I had a 50/50 shot.
