To the OP--I would really listen to this person because they actually lived in the area you're looking at. I would take this advice to heart.

Might that "area of West Babylon that is part of the North Babylon school district", actually not be in West Babylon but be in North Babylon; in the part of North Babylon that has a "West Babylon, NY 11704" mailing address?

For those who may not be familiar with North Babylon:

North Babylon is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the southeast part of the Town of Babylon, in the southwest part of Suffolk County, along the Babylon/Islip town line.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of North Babylon in the Town of Babylon is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Deer Park; on the east by the Hamlet of West Islip in the Town of Islip (the Babylon/Islip town line); on the south by the Village of Babylon; and, on the west by the Hamlet of West Babylon.

The Hamlet of North Babylon has a different border than does the "North Babylon, NY 11703" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "North Babylon, NY 11703" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of North Babylon and a place can have other than a "North Babylon, NY 11703" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of North Babylon): places that have a "North Babylon, NY 11703" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of North Babylon are in the Village of Babylon and the Hamlet of West Babylon; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of North Babylon with a "West Babylon, NY 11704" and "Babylon, NY 11702" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

nbres, did you live there or do you now? Because I did, and thankfully I moved. Yes, there are a lot of well maintained homes but I lived there and I know that appearances can be deceiving. The house 2 streets away from mine which yes Walter, was West Babylon, with a West Babylon mailing address but North Bab schools, behind Brennan was a crack house which was boarded up while I lived in the area. A car mysteriously exploded one night on my street. A person was shot less than a block away. I moved from the area this past spring, there were numerous GANG fights on the track at Brennan High School. This was confirmed to my DF and I by the Suffolk PD when they showed up (took them almost a half hour to get there for one of the fights, at which at least one was arrested). There are more and more homes in that area going into foreclosure and in the time I lived there the neighborhood got progressively worse. A house on Mount Ave was raided one night, the yellow tape was lovely to drive by.

Wyandanch, for all intents and purposes, doesn't look like a stereotypical ghetto either, there are plenty of well maintained homes there, but doesn't mean it's a safe area.

Brennan High School is not in North Babylon or part of the North Babylon School District. As the post says it is in West Babylon and part of BOCES

Brennan has a mailing address of North Babylon.

We were West Babylon, and across from Brennan. The house behind ours was a N Babylon mailing address as were our neighbors 3 homes down. I never realized that Brennan also had a N Babylon mailing address. But they're all West Babylon and the homes in that area are zoned for North Babylon schools. Looking at it now knowing that I want to know which postal employee zoned it like that. We were smack dab in the middle of 2 N Bab mailing addresses in WEST Babylon (mailing also). Freaking confusing!

The area you describe is in West Babylon. Check it on one of Walter Greenspans maps. The zip code for that area is 11704. North Babylon is 11703. Brennan High School is not part of the North Babylon school district, but is part of BOCES

Well the whole point is that the section of West Babylon that falls into North Babylon schools isn't a very good area. And also that NB schools really aren't nearly as good as WB and Babylon.
