You would only know if that were a crack den if you were the one going there. I've lived there for 20 yrs. Never saw a crack den. Sorry. What do you mean about the biggest eyesores in the neighborhood happened to be owned by white people? How did I pick and choose what I read. I read it all and everything was negative except for turbogirl and you made it clear to her all the people are corrupt in my neighborhood. Alice Cone is trying her hardest to make our neighborhood cleaner and safer. How am I trying to ignore what is "happening in my own back yard" if in my last post I said "We are people too, we see what is going on in our neighborhoods and strive to fix it". I didnt say it was crime free. Believe it or not it's every where whether it's done in the dark or light.

You made the assumption that people were damning your neighborhood because black people live there. I was simply pointing out that one of the biggest eyesores in the area is inhabitated by WHITE people.
The area is drug infested and crime ridden and Ms Cone needs to appeal a bit more to Suffolk's finest to find out why it takes them 1/2 hour to 45 mins to respond to NUMEROUS calls to them about gang fights on the track last Spring. Yes, myself and at least 3 neighbors called them and it took that long.
Know what SCPD says off the record? They will not enter the area if the car has only a single rider, they only enter that area, Wyandanch, some areas of Deer Park with a partner due to the DANGER to them. Hell, even the Dominos delivery drivers would beep and we had to go to the car to get our food because they said it was a "dangerous area"
And thank you for accusing me of being a crack head.. I don't need to GO to one to be savvy enough to know what's what. I know what a crack head looks like. I know what drug deals look like. And I know that it was confirmed to me by the person across the street AND SCPD that it was a crack house.
It is a wonderful neighborhood, really. This is why houses sit empty unable to be sold. Why someone got shot last summer in the area. Why a house was burned down with an old lady in it. Why all the nicer homes in the neighborhood have Slomin's and ADT signs in every yard. I mean, it can't be because of a higher burglary rate. Because in nicer areas people still put bars on their lower level windows.....
You think that by my saying "young men walking dogs" I refer to you and a freaking chihuaha. No, it's young guys with pit bulls laughing as their UNLEASHED dogs chase cars and meeting someone for a minute and then leaving. Yeah. because they're just walking the dog.
I'm glad you have some pride in your neighborhood, really, it's a shame that the people who visit the park at Brennan don't respect it the same as you do. It's a shame all your neighbors aren't as prideful. You couldn't GIVE me a house in that neighborhood as it stands right now. You couldn't pay me to live in that area again. The bad, unfortunately, outweighs the good.

I grew up in that area and went through NB schools. I turned out pretty well. I would look into the stats of the district though. A few years ago I interviewed for a position in the Middle School and there were a large amount of security guards there. It made me feel uncomfortable.

My grandfather settled and built his own home (as well as other homes) in the African-American section back in the 1960's. I grew up in North Babylon in the late 70's and graduated from North Babylon Senior High School in the early 90s. This section was certainly NOT impoverished. As a matter of fact, there were doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc. It was a very quiet and beautiful neighborhood and both my grandparents and parents were proud homeowners.
Since moving out of state and back to Long Island’s North Shore, I’ve always bragged about growing up in North Babylon without thinking twice. I remember a Wall Street executive approached my father (back in the day) about selling his beautiful 5-bedroom house that my grandfather built but my father turned the down offer. Kids I grew up with used to call our home a “mini-mansion”.
After doing a Google search, I stumbled across this page. It’s sad to hear all the negative talk about North Babylon and Barclay Street. I just want everyone to know that North Babylon wasn’t always a negative place to live …it was a beautiful neighborhood in the midst of a good school district.

I go to North Babylon High School and the schools are very nice schools. The schools have strict rules that keeps us safe. The schools are also very multi-racial.
Some people call us "ghetto", because there is some violence, but it is a generally good place for an education. Yeah it's a town where Moderator cut: language
goes down but it's perfectly fine. Personally, North Babylon makes you feel tougher because of what happens with lock downs and shootings. Whatever people hear about North Babylon isn't the same as being there.
So if whoever sits there and say how it's a bad place because of what happens, really doesn't know anything. Besides, North Babylon is a whole lot better than White Islip.
Kthanksbye.

The areas around Little East Neck Road are safe areas as well as MOST of North and West Babylon.

It is no accident that Long Island is one of the most highly segregated places in America. Although that is rapidly changing. Remember Whites are now a minority in the New York combined metropolitan statistical region.

Yes...one need only look to the New York City public school system to appreciate the wonders of diversity. That said, there is nothing wrong with wanting to live in a homogeneous community...unless, of course, you are homophobic.

The only boarded up house that fits your description is a foreclosure. It is not a crack den, and has never been one. It is a house that a middle-class family lived in, just like the vast majority of the houses in Belmont Estates.
The only look that is not deceiving is that the overwhelming majority of the homeowners in this area are African-American.

If one wanted to get to Straight Path from Mount Avenue, all you have to do is stay on Mount Avenue and drive to the end.

This is utterly untrue. You need to stop smoking that stuff you bought at the "crack den" on Barclay!
