We are looking at a lovely house in West Islip, but I am not sure about the area. The house is south of sunrise but north of montauk. Can people from West Islip tell me what you love or hate about the town? How are the schools? Your neighbors? Any areas that should be avoided? Thank you!

My fiance has lived there his whole life. He says that generally, the town has gotten worse over the years, along with the schools. It's still ok though for the most part. I was told that as long as you stay south of Sunrise, it's good. North of Sunrise is where it isn't nearly as nice.

West Islip is still a good place to call home. More north around the Bay Shore border its a little seedy. If noise is a concern to you make sure you sit in the backyard and listen to the traffic on Sunrise Highway. I know it can be annoying to some.

What do you mean by "worse"?

I am not aware of any significant crime or economic related problems north of Sunrise or anywhere in West Islip except for some of the parts in the extreme north like north of Southern State that border North Bay Shore and Baywood.

Stores going out of business and sitting there vacant for a long time, test scores in the schools lower than they were compared to 10 or so years ago. It's still a nice town though. Not really that much crime.

WI is an excellent town with excellent schools and plenty to offer.

IMHO its the best of the Islips and has great access to Ocean beaches and Babylon RR.
