After driving out there today, it seems like the north shore is a better fit. We spent most of the day along the south shore tho. Can anyone recommend some nice north shore neighborhoods.
We started out in south jersey, looking at freedom point, freehold, etc. It was really dumpy. The houses looked very cheap, smashed together and near borderline ghettos. Barnegat was a particular dissapointment. We were looking in jersey to avoid the NY tax, but now realize norther LI is the best fit. Now it's just time to find a good city. Our dream is to find a nice house, with some privacy near the water. We'd eventually like to buy a boat ,etc. Based on what i've read and looked at , out 600k seems reasonable, especially considering the taxes.
Anyone have any suggestions?

There are a number of nice communities. How far East to you want to go on Long Island?

Great choice.
I wouldnt rule Miller Place or Rocky Point out either.
Exit 63 N
Not too too bad from the Ronkonkoma Rail @ Exit 60.
Port Jeff line sucks.

Additional nice areas would be Nissequogue, Head of the Harbor, Belle Terre and of course Stony Brook.

With the exception of maybe parts of Old Stony Brook...Not really beach communities and WAY uptight.
Taxes are murder too.
Theres a couple of really cool private beach communities to check out in NE Brookhaven.
Scotts Beach/Sound Beach/Culross Beach/The Terraces/High Cliff Beach/Tides North/North Shore Beach/Shoreham Village are all great and about the same amout of travel time to Ronkonkoma RR.
Were in North Shore Beach and love it.
Theres great waterfronts to be had in the 5-6 range with FANTASTIC views.

Today we drove through muttontown, huntington , nissequogue, comack & smithtown.
nissequogue, comack & smithtown seems to be ideal.

Would you happen to know of a good salesman in the area?
Better hurry up before TomMoser steps in.
I'm throwin' softballs here guys.
I still thinking Beach though.
He should at least give Scotts Beach a peek or if he has to go up Island.. Eatons Neck.
I have a feeling after the sticker shock of Muttontown and Nissequogue he may want to give Miller Place-Sound Beach-Rocky Point-Shoreham a 2nd look.
Best value play on the North Shore.
Who knows
