There are plenty of Asian and Indian families -- Hispanic families, too. The beauty of having SUNY in our backyard is that we get a number of families of foreign origin -- so while some appearances might suggest Caucasian American, we are actually surrounded by many European families. Polish, Slavic, German, Serbs, Croatians, French, Italian, Russian, etc. You can't leave out the middle eastern families, either.

Aside from that, there is a community within the area which consists of Native Americans -- some of whom have married into the African American population dating back to the pre Revolutionary era.

There are mixed race children in the schools; the figures on the websites don't accurately reflect what I have seen first hand.

Oh -- that 'upper class' thing...not all of us are. There are plenty of hard working families in the area who were fortunate enough to have bought here while prices were down, to have inherited a house, etc.

Religions -- Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus -- to name a few.

I came from a lily white, small school district in Nassau County. It left me ill prepared to deal with the diversity I would experience at a large university. The 3V schools are far more in line with that than my old HS was.

....and everyone coexists peacefully, that is the beauty of 3V.

FWIW Its also the heart of Brookhaven liberalism.

Crooks you make it sound like Rocky Point\ Miller Place\ Sound Beach area is the 3rd Reich. It may not be extremely diverse but no one is going to run you out of town because of it. I went to Rocky Point schools and lived in Miller Place it is a wonderful place to live. What grade / subject did your wife teach.

Like most of you I have no problem with "upper middle class " diversity, I just don't want to be around the coram, shirley, etc. diversity. Color doesnt matter if you have class and respect. Respect for yourself, your property, and others as well.

I always loved Phil Ochs' unique "take" on things, especially his song "(Love Me) I'm A Liberal".

It's somewhat dated, but you can substitute the old names for new one's and the message is still there.
