Leslei W: I'm glad John remembered me. Hope you're both in good health. No I didn't marry anyone from the ASR either time(Ha Ha) Bonnie who? I think she's on #3or4 now living in Washington and arizona, we caught up a few years ago. I would like to chat more with you , I believe there still ASR meetings in Suffolk co. I've lived in Florida for the last 25 years, was actually a founding member of the Port St. Lucie (Fl) Marching Band. I used to Drum out the Color Guards for The New York Mets Spring Training ceremonys. ........Gary Palmese

Leslie W: I guess I should have clarified my last message. The ASR Band meant the world to me, I found it ironic that the band did the( I believe) opening ceremonies for The New York Mets at Shea Stadium and that I drummed out the Color Guards for opening day ceremonies for The NY Mets first spring training game in their camp in Florida(Known around here as little Shea). ... As for ASR marrages the ones that I know of(John&Pat,Ralph&Pam,Tony& Kathy)have lasted almost or more than 40 yrs. The Meaghers have been together since about 1963! ..... We were different than other kids of the time. We were proud to wave the Flag. We were proud to wear our uniforms and march through the streets showing people who we were. While other people in our age group were burning the flag we were proud to wave "Our Flag"...... Gary Palmese

The ASR Band: I was proud to be in the ASR band,I was taught and in turn taught others not only music, but the respect and love of my Country and Flag I still have today. The Yes Sirs and Yes Maam's that still come out of my mouth came from my years in the ASR. Thanks MR Ousey ,Mr. Arm...The Band preformed in many, many different places but the most fun was for the Friday night Pass and Review in PS 138, Ralph Meagher and I on Drums, Dennis ****** and Frankie Cip on Bells, Jackie Roche and Fred Webster on Trumpet, and Charlie Jimenez on Slide Trombone. Without Charlie traveling out from Manhattan with his Slide we never could have played "The Stripper" in fun for our girls (Batt.15) to march around the Gym to. I do hope some of these people discover this site ....Gary Palmese

Once a year marching competition was held at Kings Point...and it got pretty competitive. It was more popular in Nassau County (Batallion 2 was in Valley Stream), however, my dad (now in his 80's) helped start a set of Batallions in Suffolk County (West Babylon). Batallion 18 was male, Batallion 19 was female. They had a camp in upstate NY somewhere...that each Batallion would spend a week at each summer. I can't remember where that was.

The only reason I ask, is because I spent many years of my youth as part of that organization and have fond memories of it...as others must have. But the odd thing is...absolutely nothing exists on the net when I google it! I always wonder what happened to the organization, and I can still remember parts of the pledge recited each week:

Raise your right hand and repeat after me...

As a Sea Ranger, I will, on my honor, uphold the laws of God and my country, obey my superior command, keep myself clean, in mind and body, at all times,...
Hello, I was also in the sea rangers, Battalion 18 in west babyon, in the early late 60's and early 70's I was ranger of the year once, still have the plack, competed at kings point many times, took 1st in trick drill once. good memories, our battalion leader was Joe Garcia, went to the camp once and I also can't recall just where it is, but the year I went we got caught in the wood stock traffic, the camp was on a hell of a hill, i remember the log fights,

Hi Gary, you live in Florida? So do I. I live on the other coast though, in Clearwater. My sister lives in Melbourne on the east coast. My brother, John is down here also, but my other brother, Scott is still in New York. Port St. Lucie is not that far from Melbourne, is it? Next time I get over there (which is not too often, with work and everything), we will have to get together and go over the "good ol' days" I am on Facebook, you should look me up on there, I'm under Leslie Webb Giannetto. (my husband passed away 4-1/2 years ago). I agree that we were a different breed of kids back then, proud to be Americans! I don't think the kids of today have the same values we had growing up.

I am so sorry to hear about your sister, Gail. She was so young! I will contact you at your e-mail address. I remember my first boyfriend, Charlie from the battalion in Elmont. He was friends with Ralph, Pam's husband. I sometimes think of him and wonder how he is doing. (you know, you never completely forget your first "love")

I haven't gotten in touch with Tony yet, I did get his phone number though. I've been really busy, working 7 days a week. I'll try to give him as call real soon though.
