We left Long Island 4 years ago because of traffic, taxes that went up quicker than our salaries, insanely humid summers, out of sight energy costs (3 times the national average), not enough snow in winter ( we love winter sports), a confrontational and overly aggressive populace, and a school and political system in which the foundation is abnormally corrupt. Incorporated villages treat their treasuries like private piggy banks. Salaries for water commissioners, department heads and the like are routinely in the mid $100k's. This is private info in the villages and is not open to public scrutiny.
The only things we miss about LI are the family & the food.

Guess what? It doesn't.

That is because Texas has many more illegal's than LI. LI is on it's way though

You bring up many legit criticisums, but aside from the weather, much of what you describe (traffic, political corruption, high taxes) are found in many, if not most, suburban regions near major cities. Where did you move to?

Some stats to back that up would be nice, like one showing that the prison population in Texas is made up largely of illegals.

70% of the people that move away come back! No matter how negative things seem, you get used to
it and miss it. You wind up missing your friends, that NY attitude, no matter how negative it may be
there are people who you may perceive to be a lot stranger. My wife and I moved to the Midwest and we hated it their, we missed New Yorker's and all the crazy things that go on here.

I moved from Long Island to Queens on Sunday.
1> High Cost of living made my mom have to move to PA so I moved into my dads house so I can finish off the school year at my old high school.
Basically the only reason.
I don't think I'm ever going to live on Long Island again. After Queens going to go upstate or to CT for college and then maybe NYC, NJ, or PA. Or who knows maybe to California. Still haven't decided and I have time. But I doubt I would want to live in Cali because of the high COL. I want to live somewhere I can enjoy the middle class lifestyle and have time to spend with family and doing things I like instead of working all the time to survive.

If that was the case, don't you think that during the past 10 years or so when the illegal population on LI has increased that crime would have gone up?, not down?

Basically the same exact reasons as everyone else.COL,nasty people, traffic.I also want some nature. This place is becoming so built up its disgusting.I'd rather look at some trees or mountains than a bunch of crappy strip malls.
