Exactly. When I was driving thru NJ I started seeing hills that were breathtaking. Nothing like that on Long Island IMO.

You have a point. If we did things like China does, we would have a lot more organs available for transplant ...

I left due to winters that are just too long, work, and just for a change of scenery.
I never found the crime on LI to be worse then anywhere else honestly.
The change of scenery will do you good and if you don't like it in NC you can always come back.

Lucky to have sold our town house in July before the housing debacle. Now reside in Naples Florida and would never move back to LI on a permanent basis. Like another poster said: too much traffic, horrible weather, out of control property taxes, corrupt school districts and too much urban sprawl.

Reasons I am thinking about moving:
1- traffic here is outragious- seems rush hour is from 7 am to 9 pm
2- Most people here are so caught up in their own materialistic world they don't care what happens to anybody but themselves
3-Taxes
4- My kids can't afford to live here unless its in a basement apt--What good is it if my wife and I cannot see our children and their future families grow
5- I need more room, this 50x100 lot is not big enough to allow me to have a big family get togather on unless I forget to invite my wifes side
Just starting to look in northeast PA and like the area. Hope to find something I like in the coming year.

Hmmm, is #5 really a negative? No inlaws..... LOL!
Seriously, NEPA has some great people (check out the forum - it's quite lively with an interesting bunch of characters). The only reason I've sort of given up on moving there is the economy isn't so great. If you're in the medical field, it's a bit better. I've focused my job hunt on the Lancaster/Harrisburg/Hershey areas and will move where ever I get the best job.

My husband was out of work for over a year. The first company to offer him a job he took. It was in Naples, Florida. I would move back to Long Island in a NY minute. IF we can retire in a few years given what has happened to the 401K, and IF I will still be getting a state of Florida pension in 4 years, we WILL return.

I moved back after 4.5 years away. The only place we've seriously considered moving to is Philly, and we wouldn't have considered it had 1) the economy been better and 2) the particular job my husband was looking at not been really interesting. And I admit, I was largely willing to consider it because it's close to NYC.
I left, I came back, I'm staying. New Yorker at heart.

We're considering not only leaving Long Island, but the USA altogether (never thought I'd say that).
Reasons: Greed, Corruption, Dollar Collapse, Hyper Inflation, Crime on the rise, Education on the decline, Government that rewards bad behavior and punishes responsibility, increasing taxes, social security vanishing, the list goes on and on...
I wish I was kidding, but the way I see it, this economic downturn has only just begun, and I'm not willing to stick it out another 10-20 years. I sure hope I'm wrong...
