Why are YOU leaving Long Island?
High taxes?
Crime?
Job Transfer?
Something else?
Just curious why people leave the island.
We are moving in the Spring to NC. I really like LI but am looking forward to a change.

If you move from LI to NC because of crime, are you saying because you want more crime?

#1...Quality of life. I don't enjoy living in Queens Jr. anymore.
#2...Ridiculous cost of living.
#3...The people. Seems almost everyone has a chip on their shoulder or a grudge.
Nearly everyone is confrontational in some way, shape, or form.
OK, not everyone, but it sure feels like everyone. I literally, and I don't think I'm exagerating too much, I literally cannot go anywhere without some kind of incident, most are minor, but it all adds up to royal p.i.t.a.
#4...all of the above squared.

I notice this as well, but I don't think it's exclusive to LI. It probably applies to the whole tri-state area.

Yeah, it's not isolated to the LI area alone, but I'm only concerned about where I live, which is LI. I've noticed it from one end of the Island to the other, it's not just a Nassau thing. Probabally from all the Nassau/Queens people migrating further east.
They take their baggage(aka attitude) with them.

This part is true, but a lot of it is just posturing. The level of violent crime on LI is much lower than in North Carolina. If you mouth off to someone in NC, it's more likely to actually escalate into violence...try it sometime, make a southern guy look bad in front of his girlfriend...expect to fight. Here, it's mostly just talk. I do get tired of all the wannabe tough guys, though, and the aggressive driving.

I don't have a problem with a good ole fashioned one on one ass whoopin'...may the best man win...
These days, it's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get...
(will I get sued for using that line? ha!)
The problem is that in the old days, 2 people would have an altercation and if it ended up being physical, most of the time, it was just fists flying, and the best man won. These days you stand an excellent chance of getting shot, stabbed, or beat to a pulp by a posse.

..and I can tell you you'll probably even more likely get shot in NC than here because guns are much easier to come by and more prevalent.
