ah, i see. that's cool then.
when my brother moved from Farmingdale to 'Pequa we gave him a hard time too for pretty much the same reason
i'm a product of Farmingdale schools, though that's almost 20 yrs ago, so I was just curious if there was an idea that the schools have went downhill since then.
Speaking of North Mass: there is a house listed on MLSLI for about 300k. I haven't seen it, but it sounds like a decent deal, on the surface.

I grew up in N. Massapequa just off Broadway, went to Albany Ave then F'dale HS.
As the other poster mentioned, the Bethpage Bikeway is great, one of the few available on LI where you are off the streets on a well paved bike path that goes quite a distance. When we were kids we spent a lot of time in the Massapequa preserve which also has a great hiking trail.
The community is safe and at least when I was there fairly close-knit.
The knocks on F'dale HS now probably have to do with a more diverse ethnic make-up, whereas Massapequa HS was always very white. But the facilities at F'dale, extra curriculars, and availability of honors and ap courses were always good. I went to an Ivy as did a number of my classmates.
Good luck and say hi to my old 'hood.

I lived in North Massapequa and went to Massapequa high school. I loved being near the preserve and being walking distance to stores on broadway. I would however, research Farmingdale high school before buying. I remember seeing it on some type of warning list of ny state schools that need improvement. I know people that went to Farmingdale high school and were happy with their education, however you might want to consider the school district for the sake of resale value.

Depends on who you speak to...most of the folks I know who say it's gone downhill are 20+ year ago graduates like yourself. I believe a lot of their opinion is simply based on the fact that it's not the same as 20 years ago. I might say the same about my HS, but IMO my old school makes F'dale look look like Jericho.
Of course nothing is the same as 20 years ago and sometimes people get sentimental for the old days. A lot of others say that it's fine, myself included.

Just a tad.....Heck I didn't even grow up in F'dale and I know the rivalry well, particularly with football.

If it was, it is not now. I know for the current school year it is certainly in good standing and has made the AYP (adequate yearly progress) qualifications.

I've heard very mixed things about the Farmingdale S.D. from a few people. I also know people in it that are not happy with the district...but I honestly don't know why. I was under the impression that massapequa was 1st, then Plainedge, and then Farmingdale SD....but I could be wrong since I have no first-hand experience...it's all hearsay.

You have to take what teens say about their schools with a grain of salt.
Teens have a tendancy to knock their own schools just because that is part of the angst and rebelious nature of being a teenager. 9 out of 10 teenagers will tell you their school sucks for whatever their reasoning is. It's just part of being a teenager.
Every school is going to have a fair share of bullying, fights, scuffles, brawls etc, that is normal, it's the degree to which the incidents occur and how far they escalate that defines how bad a school truly is. When you hear about guns, knifes, posse's, heavy drug use/sales on a routine basis, then you better watch out.
The educational side is a whole different story. Some of the so-called "better" schools inflate and exagerate numbers to keep their status up.
If you have kids research research research.
If you don't have kids, for resale purposes you can pick just on popular oppinion.

Woodward is a fine elementary school, a bit large by some standards, but I am quite pleased with the education that both of my children received there. Most parents that I know who currently have children there do speak very highly of it as well.
If the house you are looking at is zoned for Woodward, I assume you are looking either in Viceroy, or along Boundary Ave. near Broadway. Both Areas are very nice neighborhoods and as OhBeeHave mentioned this puts you right on top of the Bethpage Bike Path if you enjoy that sort of activity. Bethpage State Park is also a quick drive or bike ride away, with world class golf.
You will pretty much need a car to do most of your local shopping, but you won't have very far to go. Try A&S Pork Store on Broadway for Italian specialties, The Fairway grocery nearby is also pretty good. Farmingdale Village is also close by with several restaurants/pubs that are worth a shot - try the wings at Croxley's. If you like Japanese shoot down to Massapequa for Minami, or go for ice cream at Krisch's.
There is plenty to do and enjoy in the area! Try not to let the naysayers detract too much. Feel free to fire off any questions about the general area if you like, I'll be happy to share my opinion. Feel free to PM as well on any specific questions you may have.

The naysayers -- fughedaboutit.
My mom used to send me (as a kid) up to A&S all the time -- it's great to know it's still around.
And Krisch's! I can't believe I forgot to add that! It's been soooo long.
We can't forget All American for double doubles.
