They used to call it "White Flight"....now, there aren't that many places, left, to "fly" to !

It's on the next block, in some places.

You either have to run again, or make a Stand, and say, "It has to end, here".

You make some off the wall statements on Nassau.

Maybe you should stick to informing us about what's what out there in the sticks of Suffolk.

Interestingly, as we speak here, our new President's office, is "taking control" of the upcoming 2010 census, by having the Department of the Census reporting directly, to the President, and NOT the Secretary of the Department of Commerce.

See this story, for the details how the "fudging" of these type of numbers, works....

White House to Bypass Commerce on Census

By Jonathan Allen, CQ Staff

The director of the Census Bureau will report directly to the White House and not the secretary of Commerce, according to a senior White House official.

The decision came after black and Hispanic leaders raised questions about Commerce Secretary nominee Judd Gregg ’s commitment to funding the census.

What sort of bona fides does one have to establish, to make comments on this forum, Sir ?

I accept your apology, for your lapse of judgement here, thank you.

Proximity to New York City ?

I'm sure neighborhoods like Elmont, figure in somehow.

mileage-wise Levittown is basically the same distance to midtown Manhattan as some of the most posh country clubs in Westchester

it's also basically eqidistant as Muttontown

Levittown definitely had some kinda "Wild West" reputation years ago. It was never that crazy, but there was some truth to it. Tons of white trash when I was younger: trashed houses, Camaros parked on lawns, burnouts and drunk rednecks. If anybody remembers what the Village Greens looked like about 15 years back it wasn't pretty. They were totally abandoned and covered in grafitti. Doors hanging off hinges, kids would break in to party....abandoned cars would get burned in the parking lots or flipped over. Nothing that serious, though....it was really just a bunch of bored, stupid kids that were a problem, but that's just the way we grew up. One time we threw a cinder block off the roof of the Cherrywood Shopping Center through the windshield of a wrecked Honda Civic, and it was the coolest thing in the world at that time. That was a transitional period, though. A lot of the original owners were nearing the end of their lives and things had just gotten a little run down, maybe attracted more of a scumbag element. By the time I was in my later high school years, it was totally different.

I think the reason Levittown changed back into a classy town is that the schools improved dramatically. They were legitimately not that good for a long time, but now both Division and MacArthur are very highly ranked....in the company of much more expensive districts. Why is it cheaper? Maybe it's still a hangover from the 80s, but it also could be that basically all homes in Levittown are 1) small and 2) virtually identical, so there is stiff competition. If you think the price is too high, go around the block and buy the same house $20k cheaper.
