West Hills - Thoughts?
I drovethrough West Hills this morning - looked like a nice area. Came back to work and looked up some houses on MLSLI - they seemed OK. Any thoughts on the area. I noticed the school district is S. Huntington which I know gets a bad rap by some on this site in the past - is that still true?

West Hills is, indeed, a very nice area. Yes, it is SD 13, which has it's advocates and detractors.

For those who may not be familiar with West Hills

Yes, it is.
Jayne's Hill, the highest place (401 feet above sea level) on Lawn Guyland, is in West Hills County Park in the Hamlet of West Hills.
It's also one of those very confusing villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address as the Hamlet of West Hills is partly in the "Cold Spring Harbor, NY 11724", "Huntington, NY 11743", "Huntington Station, NY 11746" and "Melville, NY 11747" ZIP Code postal zones.
For those who may not be familiar with West Hills:
West Hills is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the southwest part of the Town of Huntington, in the northwest part of Suffolk County, along the Huntington/Oyster Bay town line and Nassau/Suffolk county line.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of West Hills in the Town of Huntington is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Cold Spring Harbor and the Hamlet of Huntington Station; on the east by the Hamlet of Huntington Station and Hamlet of South Huntington; on the south by the Hamlet of Melville; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Woodbury in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County (the Huntington/Oyster Bay town line and the Suffolk/Nassau county line).
West Hills is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of West Hills have a "Cold Spring Harbor, NY 11724", "Huntington, NY 11743", "Huntington Station, NY 11746" and "Melville, NY 11747" mailing address.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

"West Hills" is generally considered a nice area. Many horse owners live there because of the horse trails, etc. plus several stables, and their houses surpass the million dollar mark...
There are many affordable homes as well, and access to highways is convenient.
As with most school districts, you have people who love it, and those who find it lacking. With just under 6,000 students, diversity is part of life and that's something that bothers some potential homeowners.
