Brightwaters Home w/Bay Shore Schools
Hi everyone-
My husband and I are considering renting a house located in Brightwaters (we're currently in W. Islip). My only concern is that I don't know much about Bay Shore schools, and I've gotten mixed reviews on the town of Bay Shore itself. Our kids are 6,5, and 3, and I'd love to hear any honest opinions on both Brightwaters and Bay Shore.... thanks!!

Brightwaters South O' the highway is very nice.
Bayshore school district gets mixed reviews, some say it's fine it, others hate it.
I personally hear more bad than good, I work alot in the area.

The Bay Shore school district has really turned itself around. From what I hear 15 years ago the schools were very iffy. Our general manager lived south of Montauk in Brightwaters. He opted for private school for 5 years (for the oldest child) until the schools changed. Now all 3 kids went thru the B.S. system and went on to rerally good universities. Just like any other Long Island school...you get out what your kid puts in!
Oh by the way..Brightwaters is beautiful!!

Where is it located? What part of Brightwaters- North? Around the lake? On the canal?

For those who may not be familiar with Brightwaters:
Brightwaters is a village (incorporated in 1916) in the southwest section of the Town of Islip, Suffolk County.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Brightwaters in the Town of Islip is bordered on the north and the east by the Hamlet of Bay Shore; on the south by the Great South Bay and the Hamlet of West Bay Shore; and, on the west by the Hamlet of West Bay Shore and the Hamlet of West Islip.
The Village of Brightwaters has a different border than does the "Brightwaters, NY 11718" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Brightwaters, NY 11718" mailing address and not be in the Village of Brightwaters and a place can have other than a "Brightwaters, NY 11718" mailing address and be in the Village of Brightwaters): places that have a "Brightwaters, NY 11718" mailing address that are not in the Village of Brightwaters are in the Hamlet of Bay Shore; and, at the same time, there are places in the Village of Brightwaters with a "Bay Shore, NY 11706" mailing address.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

Walter,
Can you tell me what Brightwaters Farms is? I've seen a lot of listings on MLSLI that say Brightwaters Farms but are not in the Brightwaters section you posted.
Thanks!

^^ Brightwaters Farms is not a real "town" but rather a name given to a part of Bay Shore. Its a nice-quaint couple of blocks similar to the real Brightwaters. The actual "borders" are to the south- Sunrise Hwy. Howells Road to the West. Manutuck Blvd. to the East. & Fire Road Dr. to the North.
