Should I move back to Long Island, NY?
Hi...
I was born and raised on Long Island, NY. I moved out to Tampa, FL at the age of 22. I then moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia (It's a suburb - outskirts of Atlanta), and have been here for 4 years, so far. I'm leaving to visit Colombia (South America) for a few months. In GA I have a house, that's all....not married and have no children. I'm giving up my house, because I got laid off from work and it's been pretty difficult to find a decent paying job (real estate administrative work) I'm 28 years of age. I'm not sure where in the US, to go back to after I leave Colombia (South America) - which would be after 6 months or so. I only have an associates degree in Business Administratin and a Real Estate license that is only good for Georgia. I speak english and spanish, and have a few friends in NY. I don't have friends in GA. I have one friend in Florida....I'm sorry to make this so long, just trying to give as much information, as possible, so that I can get the best help possible.
I miss NY....I'm just not sure if moving back, is the most "sensible" thing to do....I try to remember my reasons for leaving in the first place (expensive cost of living and I was a part of a very restrictive faith...which I'm no longer a part of...making life much more exciting for me, now) ....
what are your thoughts, please? .... would it be "smart" to go back "home" and rent out an apartment on the Island (Long Island) or even Queens? (in your opinion) ..... your feedback is greatly appreciated....

As long as you can see yourself being content in a more modest apartment I think you should go back home to where you feel most comfortable and have the most relationships established. Yes the cost of living is high, but if it is where you would be happiest you are better off.

Even rentals are expensive for a decent living environment. Think wisely.

Agreed. If you KNOW you will be happy and have employment do what you feel is right. You only live once!

"You only live once!"
Is that a James Bond quote? Or is it, You only live twice?

I wouldn't come back here unless you have a job lined up. I'd rather be jobless where the cost of living index is less than 100 versus LI where it's over 155.

Do it.
Hey. I'm married with 2 babies and am bored in Florida and have friends in NY which is why I'm moving in about a week back to Long Island. You are young and have a lot ahead of you so why not give it a try? Sounds like you have your mind made up already. Two friends are better than none. If I were you, I'd be going yesterday. You are young and single, don't let them scare you about not being able to find an affordable place and blah blah, you don't need a large home as of yet. Good luck!

Why not start sending out resumes.Like any other place without a job,the money runs out quick. On long island it runs out a bit quicker.Put together a resume (use monster, career builder,etc..) and use the online searches because if you have a job it makes the decision alot easier.

you are the best....everyone, thank you so much for taking the time to help me with my decision making....I'm pretty sure that I'm going to head back to NY...just the thought of it, gets me excited and gives me a weird sense of hope....not to bash Georgia, but I don't have a life here, and it hasn't been the "easiest" of tasks getting out and meeting people when all I've done has been work from home, and on top of that I belonged to a faith that restricted who my associations were to be, and such....anyway, long story there, and that's a part of history now, but I'm just very appreciative to all of you for the advice and guidance that you've so kindly provided me with :-)
