Luckily my kids had the sense to not hang around with a bad crowd either - that's when trouble can begin, I would think. We've been very lucky in that regard.
Three Village is mostly middle and upper middle class. Old Field is actually a small area, and not everyone who lives there can actually afford it, so there really aren't that many very wealthy kids in the school district overall.
My kids went to Murphy, certainly didn't suffer for it, took advantage of the programs offered throughout the district, and came out well - one graduated from an Ivy, and the other is in a very highly rate college. Overall, the district did well for my kids - nothing is perfect, some teachers we better than others, but have to say that the upper track well prepared my kids for college academia.
And OhBeeHave, I wouldn't waste my energy trying to convince posters on this thread what the truth is. They know what they know, they believe what they believe. But you and I at least know what the truth is.

Another person who cites their OWN kids/experience as Exhibit A and then thinks that's the end of the story. lol...

This shouldn't be an issue

So, what do you think?

Seems most expressions of concern focus on poor student feeling/realizing s/he can't keep up. There also seems to be the assertion that this feeling is made more profound by an larger gap in income.
I know of no support for either claim. I was a poor student at a very rich private school. A boy I went to high school with had his father featured on "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" (owner of Waste Management). I did just fine because I was parented well.
If you teach your kids that they are entitled to things, they will have trouble. If you teach your kids to be jealous, they will have trouble. Still, I found that the most level headed and drug free kids came out of the poorer population at school - they didn't have the money for drugs, nor the time. They had better work ethics. And, yet, they dated across SES status, and played on teams together.

This thread could have been useful. Lots of fingerpointing and few real answers.
