Unhappy Cost of Home heating Oil?

Just got an enormous bill again! Was speaking to a guy in town & he said the price he pays w/o service is $1.69 gallon. If this is the case, we're seriously getting ripped off. What is a reasonable price with/ without a service contract?

The wholesale price of heating oil was $1.19-67/100 at the close of Friday's (February 20) trading session.

You can easily monitor the heating oil regular session futures prices on the New York Mercantile Exchange (because these prices are available at no charge, they come with a 30-minute delay).

More often than not, it's not the price of crude oil that determines the price of gasoline, heating oil and other distillates, but it's the price of gasoline, heating oil and other distillates, adjusted for the crack spread (gross refinery operating margin) that determines the price of crude oil.

That makes sense to me. After all we do not call up and order a few barrels of crude. We order heating oil or put refined gasoline in our tanks. Good point.
