Favorite walking trails in Long Island?
What are your favorite walking paths/trails on Long Island? I have always liked the Avalon at Stonybrook. (following up with scones and tea from Robinsons) Hoping for more suggestions, as spring is hopefully around the corner!

Bayard Cutting Aboreteum in Oakdale has a bunch of trails. Some lead to the Connetquot river, others lead you through the woods, some to the estate house, etc. Go check it out, it's worth it.

Connetquot River State Park is a huge (for Long Island) preserve with miles of paths, fishing and horseback riding located just north of Sunrise Hwy between Islip and Oakdale. You do need to write away for a permit, it's free and tends to keep the riff-raff out.

Long Island Recreational Areas - NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation
You do need a permit for Rocky Point too.
The permit is free and valid for three years.

planting fields arboretum has everything from a casual paved road to the carlton gates [circa 1750] to quiet hiking trails thru the woods.
