I think they got around this by having Sam's Club (which is like a BJs or Costco) and is wholly owned by the Wal Mart Corporation (and named for Sam Walton)

Wal-Mart, and the American consumer, has done a lot to squeeze out American manufacturing. Both have become insane with wanting the lowest price even if it means the consumer loses their own jobs.

Wal-Mart wields its power for just one purpose: to bring the lowest possible prices to its customers. At Wal-Mart, that goal is never reached. The retailer has a clear policy for suppliers: On basic products that don't change, the price Wal-Mart will pay, and will charge shoppers, must drop year after year. But what almost no one outside the world of Wal-Mart and its 21,000 suppliers knows is the high cost of those low prices. Wal-Mart has the power to squeeze profit-killing concessions from vendors. To survive in the face of its pricing demands, makers of everything from bras to bicycles to blue jeans have had to lay off employees and close U.S. plants in favor of outsourcing products from overseas.

Something to remember in the current economy.

Wal Mart doesn't care about its employees??? Name me ONE international retailer (or any international company for that matter) that cares about its individual employees other than their production value. Face facts, the majority of companies consider their line employees to be nothing but a number. You can be replaced like >that<

your post is honest. so many people are liars or deceive themselves.
also, you don't have to shop at wal-mart. it's for people looking to save money. i find it strange they are so obsessed with walmart but there are still plenty of department stores. they can't shop at macy's? sears? saks? the mall? plethora of outlet stores too?
i think they are just pissed that the products are not as good as the higher end at the lower-end prices, so they don't want to shop there.
also, there are higher-end chinese products that you can buy at higher-end department stores but they dismiss that and call all of it cheap junk which is further funny because the products are american designs geared for americans. i've been overseas and everything is different from simple skincare to most appliances to household goods and clothing. they are not the same products as american products. these made in china or wherever products are american US of A designs. lol
their complaints are suspicious except for the part they want the crappy manufacturing jobs (lol) to come back to the united states.
even if manufacturing jobs were returned, you would have the lower-end crap to the higher-end but at even higher prices. LMAO.
with more manufacturing in the united states creates even a more classist society. i don't understand how they can think that's so good for the majority of americans. lol
i guess they want to go back to the days when only a certain segment of society could afford something like a color tv etc. clothing was extremely expensive or extremely cheapy. you were in or out! lol
i worked at fast food chains, mom and pop local grocers in high school and i can attest nobody cared about the "employees". you were a commodity.
people are soo stupid..

I love it, though, because most of the "designer" stuff you buy at Macys, etc are made overseas. I just grabbed a pair of my Hilfiger sweatpants --- they were made in Macau (a part of China). My Hilfiger duffel bag? Made in the Phillipines..... All nice EXPENSIVE "all American" red, white, and blue products made overseas...
Problem is, people need a scapegoat and Wal Mart is it. They're jumping for joy when outlet centers open or when a new mall is built. But a Wal Mart.... grab your torches and pitchforks!! Get your garlic and crucifixes.... it's WAL MART.... evil, evil WAL MART....AAAAAACKKKKKK run for your lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!
Absolutely, positively ABSURD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And, like I said, they all hate Wal Mart but that parking lot is always jam packed weekdays, weekends, mornings, nights...... always packed......

The freaking out about Wal-Mart makes me wonder if people in the 1950's freaked out about A&P.
It's funny how a 16,000 store national chain in 1950 basically collapsed into a regional chain with only about 400-ish stores under all their banners.

In the end, eventually, our new Economy, the Malls will become "ghost Malls", and "super stores", of ALL types and brands, will be their substitute.

Im surprised your drinking the koolaid Mike.
I really thought you were smarter than that.
Do you really believe WalMarts PR on face value?
Havent you noticed that Middle Island is economically barren in the shadow of WalMart.
They put K-mart out of business.
They play a zero sum game....they only win when small business lose.
