Two months ago I received a call from Verizon offering me "free HBO." I know how it works; they hook you up with HBO for a month and then leave it on the bill thereafter. After the first free month, you pay for it.
I told the caller "no" three times. I just received my February bill, and was charged $30.00 for HBO.
This is criminal. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm thinking of filing a slamming complaint with the NYS Attorney General's office. Any advice?
did you really not notice the free HBO you were getting for the first month?
Maybe they didn't give him free HBO for a month and just skipped to the billing part.
Also, if I had said "no" when offered free HBO for a month, I don't think I would have noticed if they gave it to me anyway, because I would not turn the channel on at all since I would assume I didn't have it.

I actually refused to answer this question because it is immaterial. Whether I noticed it or not has no bearing on whether I'm obliged to pay for it. My expressed wishes were to not receive this "gift."
Nevertheless, I didn't notice it until I opened my bill yesterday. I have only a basic cable package - networks and local broadcasting. No Discover. No History. Nothing. So, out of the 1000 channels on my guide, why would I have wandered into the 500s when I only browse the first 25 channels? Doesn't make sense to me.
Still, the automatic assumption that I must be up to something is insulting. I suspect this is the type of person who blames middle class people for losing their jobs; "he who complains must be at fault somehow."

That's what I mean! I know which channels I have and don't have, so I know if I go to one I don't have all I will get on the screen is a message saying, "You are not authorized to view ______. If you want to add this channel, please call us at _______." I browse the ones I have, not the ones I don't so how would I notice if they gave me one I didn't have for free?
Want to get it fixed today? Call the head of Verizon directly -
