The funny thing is before I read the part on the Wiz being open (which prompted me to look at the date), the first sentence makes it seem like this could totally be from today's paper.
The problem with a lot of companies right now is that they feel they can just begin charging for something that was once free. Sirius is raising their monthly fees and now charging an additional $2.99/mo for the internet stream that was included in the monthly fee since they introduced it! Now Newsday is going to fail where the New York Times failed (and the NYT's tried it during a time of prosperity and failed!)
I cancelled Sirius when they tried to have me "lock in" my rates....
As for Newsday.com, does anyone really use this terrible site that doesn't even friggin archive articles correctly? AMNY and Newsday were the worst investments CV could have made! Especially AMNY which is the worst RAG even for free - I wouldn't line the bird cage with that!
Well its one less site to surf.
Hopefully Newsday collapses along with the Dolans bank account!
Since all of us internet readers expect all content for free from Newsday (and similar online newspapers) the industry is still trying to figure out how to make money online. This "free" thing isn't working. This is a link to an interesting article I read about the only seemingly profitable "print only" local newspaper in Jersey. The owner/editor makes some interesting points.
