I know people who are legitimately in show business (modeling, commercial, etc) and I can assure you, places like this are a scam.

STEER CLEAR OF THEM!!!!
I don't know about where you are, but there is a large agency in Houston which, among other promos, looks for new talent in the malls.

It is a totally legit, very well respected agency, and they asked for my daughter to go along to their HQ.

She became one of their models.

Ford of NY, who have links with this agency, were also down there looking for models and she was asked to meet one of their executives.

One key to things is that no money should ever be asked for by the agency- steer clear if they do.

So don't dismiss them out of hand. Agencies rely on a large base of potential models to call upon, but there is never the guarentee of work.

Believe me, Jezer, this place has "scam" written all over it..... "looking" for talent in a mall and setting up a kiosk and stopping anyone who walks by are 2 different things. I've never heard of any legit agency "looking" for talent in a mall, either. Yes, I've heard of agents who may just happen to be at a mall shopping, see someone who has a "look" and may hand them a business card, but going to a mall with the sole intention of "looking" for new models. No. It just doesn't happen.

Not to mention the fact that LEGIT modeling agencies get thousands of submissions by mail every week as well as referrals. They don't have to go to the local shopping mall looking for models. They've got enough coming to them.

BTW, exactly what is the name of this "totally legit, very well respected agency" in Houston and who are they affiliated with at Ford?

Thanks for you reply omigawd.

Not sure if I'm allowed to put the link to this agency here, but here goes.

It's Page Parkes, which is the largest agency in SW USA.

Do a simple "google" search and see what you get. If you put the name and the word "scam" with it, you may find out a thing or two.

By the way, I've never heard of a legit agency who calls themselves a "center of modeling and acting" or that they have a "renowned development and training center". This sounds like nothing better than a JRP or a Barbizon --- a place that has you take classes, photos, etc, spending a whole lot of money.

If you're happy there, then great for you. I can assure you, however, that I've never heard of any legitimate modeling (or acting) agency that makes you spend money on their photographers, classes, or anything like that.

The internet is not a source of balanced reviews, and discontented people are generally more likely to post than those who are satisfied.

We fall into the latter catagory.

Our time with Page opened up a whole host of opportunities to our daughter, not least that they have a Talent Division which she was able to take advantage of.

How much did you page the agency for photos, classes, etc?

There were costs for some of the training as there is for pretty much anything in life where you are looking to improve your chances over others.

This has already paid for itself in terms of her increased confidence in life.

There are no guarantees, as I said earlier, but there is also an expression in a part of this country that says 'You don't get owt for nowt.'

There may well be unscrupulous people and organisations around, but they are not all like that and luckily we have found one that isn't.

You said ' I've never heard of a legit agency who calls themselves a "center of modeling and acting' -well you have now.

PP organise Model and Talent Reviews whereby they fly in agents for major companies such as Models One, Ford Models of NY, Sony, Disney and the like.

As a result of their Agent Review my daughter has met up with a well respected producer in Hollywood with whom she is currently in contact.

Check out the website for PP and you will see that people such as Alexis Bledel and someone called Angelina Jolie have been through their doors.

This does not detract from your observations that there are organisations to be avoided but I do disagree that this is all a total scam, as I have witnessed.

I'm glad you're happy with them. However, I can assure you 100% that you know very little, if anything, about the business. Reading your last response proves that.

Best of luck to you and your child. I hope you both find what you're looking for.
