Jet Noise getting worse
It has really been unbelievable this past month, the planes are flying low, my windows rattle and it's like an air raid in the morning and evening. I noticed it was also bad when I was in Bethpage State Park a couple of days ago, some planes appeared to be really close. I had been making calls to my reps in the house and senate about this. Its not just a noise issue but a safety one, with planes flying so low if they have any sort of problem there is less room for error and a crash could kill hundreds on the ground.
This appears to be one of the new airbus models flying quite low, taken with only a 4x zoom camera.
Needless to say the ground shook and I was in Bethpage!

Not sure if the industry has changed flight paths to save on fuel.... but I am surprised if the noise level has increased from what it was before.....
On a separate note... These days you hear so many issues with aircrafts....According to some news publications the air traffic controllers have warned that the near collisions (ones that are too close for comfort but did not make the news) are on the rise... no a good thing...
Every time you hear such noise you have to hope the plane is not going to land on your house....

Contact the FAA and report that plane! My computer settings make the picture small, but I can see that there are registration numbers on the wing. Can you make them out when you have a full sized picture on your screen?

This is so funny. I was at Bethpage SP 4pm today and noticed the same thing ! I have never seen a plane fly that low in that area (and I visit there often).
If you noted the precise time , believe me the FAA will be able to track it.

I dont think it was the plane's fault, the FAA designed these flight paths to be low so they can put more planes up above those. This wasn't the only low flying plane I saw that day. Here's what a different plane looks like witha 2x teleconverter attached (4x X 2 = 8x)

I've noticed a big difference over the last few years as well, maybe it's just because of increased traffic, maybe I'm just paying more attention because I'm older, I don't know. I definitely notice myself turning up the volume more often on the TV for a minute or so and turning it back down again while laying in bed. It's getting annoying now. Sometimes.
I do a lot of work in the 5 Towns, I can't believe how bad it is there, it literally feels like you could almost jump up and hit the bottom of the plane sometimes. It's probabally always been like that though because of the proximity to JFK, but I've only noticed over the last few years because of the amount of time I spend down there now. It's funny, I'm doing work at these multi-million dollar mansions in like Lawrence etc, and here comes the 747 in for the landing and you feel like it's an Earthquake.
Scared the crap out of me a few times. i'm use to it now though.

Don't care, doesn't bother me and I'm too busy working to notice. Maybe if I won the lotto or was taking advantage of welfare I'd have the free time to gallivant around and the low flying planes would bother me - but I doubt it.

The low flying planes don't bother me. I used to work in JFK when I lived in Queens and I lived in one of the flight paths. Sometimes the Air France Concorde would fly so low, it almost looked like it was coming in my kitchen window. LOL!
Never bothered me, though. Too many other things to worry about.
