Of course there are white people in jail too. They make up the other 30%, but that 30% is heavily concentrated in poor white rural areas where the percentage of whites is skyhigh. Unfortunately the statistics I pointed out are the truth. We can discuss all day the reasons for it, but one can see how those stereotypes evolved.

Bottom line..if people are going to dress like thugs, then others will slot them into those bad stereotypes.

I have to say I have a pretty bad image of suits. People with suits remind me of bailouts, failed banks, Enrons, CEOs who ride company jets with bailout money, depression etc. Whenever I see a person in a suit, I cannot stop myself to lock my car, check my wallet etc. Any statistic I checked tells me that corruption is strongly correlated with white man. Reasons can be discussed, i.e. greed, ability to get away with crime etc, but one can easily see how these stereotypes evolved.

Incorrect. A little over 43% of the jail population in the USA consist of non-hispanic whites. And not all the rest of the country is poor and rural.

For non-Hispanic whites, the number of jail inmates began at 169,400 in 1990 and rose to 338,200 in 2007. In 2008, it decreased to 333,300.

For non-Hispanic blacks, the number of jail inmates began at 172,300 in 1990 and rose to 308,000 in 2008.

For Hispanics of any race, the number of jail inmates began at 58,000 in 1990 and rose to a high of 128,500 in 2008.

Hey, whatever makes you feel better about gangs. I'm not particularly fond of banking/finance thieves, but I don't see how that changes anything about violent crime. Stealing from people is stealing...there are plenty of blacks and hispanics in jail for that too, mind you, but murder and rape is another thing. Those are things you actually SHOULD lock your door against. It'd be kind of stupid to lock your door to stop someone from getting corporate welfare from taxpayers.

Nice try at making a comparison to show hyprocrisy, though.

I agree that wouldn't work. I think we should go old school and put them in stocks in the public square. For the really bad ones, publicly cutting off a hand would be a start. Then perhaps if they don't learn their lesson, public execution. China does it to this day to crooked executives. (Also note that back in the old school times the governing body took all their assets away first.)

Shorter Sentences Sought for Crack - WSJ.com

Guess who is more likely to be caught with which substance.
Ding Ding Ding. The Reagan era drug laws, especially the differences between how cocaine and crack are dealt with in our legal system have played a major role in shaping the current demographics of our inmate population.
