TY seanx4 for the backup!!!!

Consider the high school standard rankings and free lunch programs from your stats in another thread (http://www.city-data.com/forum/1805859-post33.html):

Valley Stream North (VS North)............................................ 163.9 (N/3%)
Valley Stream South HS (VS South)......................................161.3 (N/4%)
Valley Stream Central (VS Central)......................................149. 2 (N/3%)

Then we take a drastic tumble to 24th from the bottom in terms of standard ranking, yet as for poverty, when it comes to free lunches, give out over 3x that of 2 SDs and almost 3x that of the remaining SD what is given out in each of Valley Stream's SDs. Rocky Point is tiny compared to Valley Stream, yet certainly gives out plenty of free lunches for such a small place.

Rocky Point High School (Rocky Point).................................123.2 (S/10%)

There is absolutely NO REASON for anyone who lives in ramshackle Rocky Point to "turn their nose up" at Valley Stream and start threads (and/or post answers in threads) to libel it.

Anyone who lives in Rocky Point (the tacky triplet to Shirley and Mastic Beach of old converted summer bungalows) putting down other people's towns is delusional! Why don't you at least pretend you're from Belle Terre so you have a high enough elevation to look down on others, pal!
Rep point for ya! Thanks for the slapdown of that pesky fly.

Of course there are plenty of people sitting around idle to watch delivery trucks with the amount of free school lunches out there. As for burglars, I doubt Rocky Point is a coveted hotspot for thieves to find treasure since you can still buy a "house" (and I use that term loosely) in Rocky Point in the $150's. Yeah I'd feel pretty "safe" to be ignored by burglars there too. Leave the doors wide open! There's nothing they would bother to cross the threshhold for.

Great site.

If Im reading this right...both towns are under the Natl avg. which is very good.
Im not sure if you ran stats for neighboring So. Queens but I think that would definitely factor in.

Im very surprised to see the stats are that low considering all the bad press Valley Stream seems to get. BTW that was always the point of "Whats with all the bad news VS".I turn on the TV today and News12 is all over the old Golub case again.Wouldnt you agree that theres a negative media bias toward VS? It sure seems that way.

As for SW Nassau and OP. RVC still has my pick hands down.
Great little town.

crooks
I only posted Rocky Point to put in perspective just how safe Valley Stream is for you. Like I said, I'm not dissing RP - I'm sure it's very safe and it seems like a great place to live. I've driven through there, I like it a lot. You're reading the stats right - almost every place on LI is way under national average. The only places I've found so far that are above average are Hempstead, Freeport, Roosevelt, Wyandanch and Inwood. Even those just barely squeak over.

To tell you the truth I don't notice the media bias against Valley Stream nearly as much as I noticed the bigoted crap spewed in that other thread coming out of the mouths and keyboards of so many Long Islanders. The quality of life in that town is no worse than it was 10-15 years ago. The schools are excellent, the crime is low, the neighborhoods are clean and well kept....the only difference is that a large number of minorities have moved in, and it seems that a lot of people are trying so hard to somehow rationalize this being a terrible thing without admitting their own racist inclinations to themselves.

As for neighboring areas in Queens - you're gonna be very surprised here too. A lot of people either native to LI or far removed from NYC think of Queens as this festering hell hole that suffered the same fate as Brooklyn and The Bronx in the 70s-80s and never recovered. They couldn't be more wrong. The reality is that the majority of Queens is still very suburban and still very safe, though there are a handful of sketchy and downright dangerous areas scattered about the borough.

Valley Stream borders Rosedale, which is actually a fairly similar neighborhood. North Valley Stream "borders" Cambria Heights, but they are separated by the Cross Island Parkway. Here are the statistics:

Rosedale, NY 11422

Cambria Heights, NY 11411

BTW - The images linked to in my above post are no longer there. Apparently RelocationEssentials.com doesn't use static URLs for these graphs. I uploaded them to my Photobucket account....is it possible that the mods could edit my previous post and replace the images with these ones?
Valley Stream, NY 11580 & 11581 Crime Stats
Rocky Point, NY 11788 Crime Stats

PS - I would also be more than willing to discuss racism on LI and how it pertains to any one of these areas at great lengths - but if anyone wants to continue that discussion, I ask PLEASE start another thread. It's not fair to the OP here to sidetrack this discussion so far off the mark. Thanks

How old are you and why would you have to wait?

As for towns, if you are interested in a south shore area that has a lot of Catholics and Italians, Massapequa is definitely a go. Just don't buy anything in the Amityville SD. (However, your budget is a lot higher than what's offered in that district anyway.)

Hey come on now, there's no reason to call Rocky Point "ramshackle" and drop those other insults. That is misleading as well, it doesn't seem like a bad place to live. Then again, I'm not nearly as familiar with it as I am with Valley Stream/Nassau County....but even these statistics don't paint it in that light.

I understand you are frustrated with Crooks but he at least admitted his mistake (after a ton of convincing LOL), but give the guy a break! Nobody is perfect!

and you know it. Keep it up and the OP will not want to move to LI after all. Keep it up and this thread will end up locked just like your wonderful "thread that speaks for itself." Now all we need is your GF to chime in with the innuendos of "all the horrible and terrible things I know about Valley Stream nobody else does but have been sworn to secrecy by very important people and cannot reveal" nonsense. Keep it up because you know I will finish it.
None of that was nonsense and you really need to calm down. If anyone on this forum has any type of information, we all have the right to share it, whether you like the information or not. Anything I said on the other post about my experiences were the absolute truth. You should stop getting so angry, it is really not healthy.

True, the shots at RP are cheap and unwarranted. Though I admit to a bit of pleasure in reading the dogpile. When you constantly crow about your town being "all that" and in the same breath throw mud at others, you're asking for it.
