Hopefully the OP decided before now - the post is over 8 months old

I knew a couple guys that worked at CA for the y2k thing. They were bringing in good money (They even tried to talk me in to getting a sales job there).
They all lost their jobs when the computer industry dried up in '02.
They had a nice 5 year run though.

They lay off people like some people change wardrobes. I almost landed a position there 2 years back (went on 3 interviews)..from what I hear, I would have been laid off within 6 months.

Supposedly they've eased up on the clock watching, but you still can't expect to work 9-5.

The salaries are relatively low.

Layoffs happen there like people change wardrobes and hairdos. One bad quarter and dozens of positions go, but that's nothing new. No job is safe in the private sector anymore.
No jobs are safe period. I know about 8 or 9 teachers who have been let go. I am so tired of hearing from people "ohhh i can't lose my job." No, sorry, no one is invincible to being laid off.

If you're a teacher in a public school with more experience than the bottom 5 or so people in your department, you aren't going to get laid off.

If you're new and un-tenured, yes you can get dropped.

I heard years ago that the woman who put together the day care for the children of employees did a great job. And she was laid off as soon as it was up and running.

Great place to work - not.
