Default Abondoned cemeteries?

Is it true that the Car Garage in Glen Cove that was built maybe 15-20 years ago was built on an old cemetery? If so, how does that work? Remove bodies? Creepy idea...

I don't think NYS law allows anyone to build on a cemetary, even if it's old or abandoned.

Find an old Hagstrom map and see if there was a cemetery listed in that location.
Contact the local historical society and ask.
Contact the building dept and ask.

One does not build (knowingly) on an old cemetery. It's not so cut and dry as moving bodies. Board of Health is involved. Families (if any are any distant relations still in the area) need to be contacted. New burial sites need to be located. There's the cost of removing and reinterring the bodies as well as any markers.
