WFUV is the best radio station in New York, hands down. I've heard more good new songs on that station in the last 2 weeks as I've heard in 2 years on mainstream radio.

That's because it's not supported by mainstream advertising.

I also prefer CT stations, at least the adult contemporary ones. I think 99.9 and 96.7 are a lot better than 97.5 these days (they seem to be getting into pop garbage that you can hear on BLI).
Not a Long Island station but I've been enjoying one that's playing just stuff from 1960 thru 1979. Rock, Pop, R&B, Soul, Bubblegum (a lost art) and a lot of almost forgotten stuff that still sounds good. It even has an old DJ, and I do mean old, that still delivers the way Cousin Brucie, Harry Harrison and those guys at ABC did. What I like about AM radio from those days is the variety of what was played and what topped the charts. FM rock radio in the 70's also had a lot of variety that reflected the DJs tastes. These days it's all narrow focus, corporate picked play lists that leave the listeners bored after a few days of listening to the same thing over and over.
My sons heard My Ding-a-Ling by Chuck Berry (his only #1) and couldn't believe what they were hearing. Good to hear them laugh at the same "naughty" stuff that I did at their age. Mom wasn't amused that they came in singing the chorus over and over.
