Have you considered moving upstate, to the Syracuse area? It's a 4 hour drive to the city and we have an enormous Judaic presence... there are 9 temples within 15 minutes of the city center. Fayetteville-Manlius and Jamesville-Dewitt are very popular districts for Jewish families to relocate. They also happen to be two of the best school systems in upstate NY. We live in the village of Manlius and while there is a Christmas tree lighting, there's also a Menorah lighting ceremony on the Main Street that burns for all of Hannukah. (I'm Roman Catholic, btw. lol)
And $350K will buy you a mansion here. LOL

I am happy you get some help from the forum. We liberals should help each other, so that we can all get out of the hood.

Thanks, Seren77. I suppose I can see how my post could have been misinterpreted.

My husband works in Great Neck, so we're pretty locked in to Long Island. I agree though, there are some really nice places upstate. Unfortunately, they don't work for us.

I don't have a problem with working class people. I have known and befriended many. I regret using the term "working class". That was wrong.
I have a problem with people who don't accept me, people who are intolerant of those who are different than they are. That is what I am trying avoid. My husband and I would be more likely to be friendly with people who were more academic or artistic and had similar interests, yes, but we'd take kind, soulful, openhearted neighbors over elitist jerks any day of the week, too.
We're just trying to find the right mix and I'm sorry if I offended anyone. This seems to matter little to some of you who appear to be having fun at my expense. But, honestly, who cares? This forum has been a valuable resource and if it will help us avoid having to live among such close-minded, intolerant people, I will gladly put up with them here.

Growing up in Oceanside back in the day, I was the only non-Jew!
Kidding. But yes, Oceanside used to be super-Jewish. Not so much anymore.
I used to joke around that I was Jewish by default because I lived in Oceanside.
Those were the good old days, my friends and I would crack jokes on each other about being Jewish or Christian, and it was harmless fun. Looking back, it was a great way to understand each others cultures and religions, and learn tolerance for people who are not "the same" as you are. My how times have changed.
Today, people seem to be way to sensitive and stiff about such things.
Just goes to show that in some cases, diversity is good in a community.
