I still like occasionally hitting this one but i'm always cautious. I do agree that the cleanliness is in question. It's pretty bad when you can say that an establishment in Penn Station is much cleaner looking.

Whom remembers Lord Stanley's Feast? I believe it was in Hicksville.
It was a medieval type restaurant where the food was served without utensils. You had to pick up the soup bowl and slurp from it, eat your food with your hands. As kids we had such a great time there! It closed in the early 80's.

Not food related....but I grew up with Nunley's in Baldwin on Sunrise Highway around the block from my parents house. I loved riding the carousel and playing mini-golf. Then Pep-boys came along and killed it.

Last I heard the horses were in a warehouse in the North Shore and I'm pretty sure I saw the ferris wheel in Island Park by the bars on the water.

Pep Boys didn't kill it, it was already dead.
I thought they put the horses up at Eisenhower Park, or was that just a thought bubble? And yes, the ferris wheel is in Island Park by the clubs under the bridge.

Yes, not only do I miss OBI, I also miss all the "Save The OBI" bumper stickers! "Deans" in Long Beach where the cute surfer boys hung out for beers. That place on Fulton Street in Farmingdale where everyone went. The Boardy Barn in Hampton Bays, back in the day, when it had real bands. And, "My Mother's Place" in Syosset where Billy Joel used to play with his high school band.

When you could get to a great, uncrowded, ocean beach for free! I miss being able to drive up to go to the ocean out in Southampton and anyone could park there without seeing a zillion signs that you have to live there now and NO ONE else is allowed.

I miss playing kickball in the street and yelling, "car, car, C A R" whenever someone drove down your block.

Howard Johnson's mocha chip ice cream at HoJo's at the corner of Old Country Road & Wantagh Parkway.

Jahn's and The Levittown Roller Rink

Broadway in Hicksville when it was really a town with 2 bakeries, 3 delis, 2 stationery stores, Whelans, the sweet shop was on the other side, and pizza cost 10c a slice!

Barricini Candy Store in Mid Island Plaza across from Gertz---where I met my husband (and he still is) back in 1966.

Lofts Candy, Newberry's, Lerners--all stores there back before it was roofed in and renamed. In fact I remember before the mall was built and it was a big open field where Santa arrived by helicopter every December and there was an orphanage for boys on the land!

Okay, I've dated myself quite enough for now I guess............

Cherrywood Pizza in Wantagh, when I was a kid living around there my family would always get pizza from there, it unfortunately has become an Umberto's (owned by Sbarro...yuck).
In the old Roosevelt Field there was this place called Mut and Jeff which used to have great cookies. I miss Roy Rogers as well, though there's still one in Shirley, I believe.
That was food places. Then there were all the CD stores, especially the used CD stores. The best place was EMPIRE DISCS on Stewart Ave and was real upset when they just closed up out of the blue. Their space remains empty.
they do mail order now
