The houses are on Long Island(suffolk co). After having a private tenant from you know where, we decided to go the section 8 route. Well, the house was really kept good, but then she decided not to pay her share of the rent. If it was $100 or so, i would live with it as most of the rent would be coming from the government, but her share was about $800 and that was just too much to ignore.
Now we are back to a private tenant again and so far so good.
That's really unfair to the landlords.... I know if I owned a property, I wouldn't want Section 8 tenants simply because these are people who don't work, don't know the value of a hard work or a buck, and would think nothing of destroying your property.
Easy, I know we've got at least one regular poster on here who lives in Section 8 housing, wouldn't want to offend him!
....and no it's not me, I work and pay taxes that support these programs, thank you very much

My mother in law is Section 8, She is 75 years old and on disability. There are other people out there that are legit. But In the same building as my Mother in Law are young men in there 20s and 30s who collect government money while they sell drugs outside at night and wax they're range rovers during the day. I think the government should more thoroughly screen who they're giving money to. Makes me really angry to see that guy waxing a range rover while he lives for free on our tax dollars. You would think that welfare and section 8 computers would be linked to DMV to though some flags up once in awhile.
Still have no official word from my lawyer on this. Though he did say there are hundreds of ways to get around this.
The best thing to do as a rental owner is to always comply with all laws and set your standards high for who you will accept as a tenant. Insist on high credit scores and a positive and verifiable rental history.
