The "moneyed neighborhoods" in West Islip are all located along the south-of-25A strip... just as it is in the adjacent communities of Babylon Village, Brightwaters, certain sections of Bay Shore, and East Islip (e.g., Percy Williams Cove). I don't think West Islip has a larger percentage of "snobby" or "stuck up" people than any other similar shoreline (as compared to mid-Island) community, either north shore or south. It has a significantly higher percentage of white residents than the surrounding communities, true, but IMO that doesn't mean that it's "snobbier."

WI North of Sunrise is straight up Blue Collar and very cool.
we are relocating and have been looking at areas in sayville and now have broadened out search to babylon village/west babylon and now our realtor has suggested west islip...any input/advice???? we are a family of 4, 2 girls 10 & 7 so obviously schools and safety are number 1 priority.

I know it's only one poster, but come on! That's crazy talk. I've never heard this kind of babble out the mouths of any other south-shore-ites.
The line you quoted above, I didn't see it in the thread but then realized you were kidding around. The person that started that thread was bashed by pretty much everyone.

I live in West Islip and have 2 girls as well. As my previous post, my wife and I both really like the school district. Our block has a LOT of kids and the are all good kids with good parents. There are some older wacky neighbors as in any area. My immediate neighbors are normal working class people, plumber, electrician, fireman, computer guy etc... Parents are involved in the school district and Sat AM a lot of the kids/parents are up very early and taking advantage of the sports programs. Check out the schools yourself, stop in. It's a small town with a lot of kids, we moved from an area where there were not that many kids on our block so this is quite a change.

Funny you posted this link. This and another post featuring some crude W Islip residents come to mind when I think of the town now. It's ironic how a few disgraceful individuals can blemish a town in their misguided attempts to defend it.
I'll call it the "Westbury phenomenon". I have never been to Westbury, but thanks to numerous posts and photos posted by a vocal resident on this board, my minds eye pictures the town looking like Tijuana at 3 a.m. on a Saturday night.
