Default Your tax dollars at work!!

I live in the town of Brookhaven. Yesterday I was supposed to get my basement inspected for a CO (my neighbour reported that I had an apt ; I dont, the basement is finished) but anyhow I waited from 8am and waited and waited and waited.

Today i called the town and it appears that the computers went down yesterday at 11am. The inspector hadnt printed out his jobs for that day and so had no clue what his jobs were for the day. If he had printed them out earlier that morning, he would know.

Or maybe even print them out the evening before!!! You know they schedule these things about a week ahead.

Gosh its frustrating. I run a business and have our routes printed out a week ahead!!!

But then I am organized!!

Thanks for hearing my vent.

Isn't it possible that there are last minute changes to his jobs and that's why he waits until the last minute to print them out? Even if there are no changes, unless his computer frequently experiences outages, I wouldn't really blame him for not printing them out far in advance.

What would bother me is that nobody called you to cancel the appointment.

I've got to believe that these people deal quite often with changing schedules with cancellations. I'm sure if they were showing up at cancelled appointments you'd be complaining about the waste of taxpayer dollars. Mistakes happen.

I work with the inspectors at least once a month. There have been situations where we have to cancel the day before a scheduled inspection because one of the trades ran long. It happens. If he had printed out the schedule the week before, he wouldn't have known we had canceled.

Most of the inspectors in the ToB are reasonable; when there is a problem such as you've mentioned, I have found the inspectors and staff to be very accommodating.

That written: we dealt with one inspector in Huntington who had a habit of showing up a day or two early. Talk about problems! He would be in the area and despite not being the scheduled date, he would inspect and fail the site! Uh, duh -- you're here Monday and the rough plumbing is to be finished Tuesday in anticipation of our scheduled appointment on Wednesday! He wouldn't show on the scheduled date seeing as he failed the site prematurely -- we would have to call back and resechedule.

This man was not a happy guy; I suppose he wanted to 'share the love.'
