Sorry if this thread doesn't belong here, but I just moved to Long Beach and now my car won't start. I don't know any mechanics around here and don't feel secure just walking in to one of the shops down here without getting a prior recommendation. I'm not sure how many places down here would price gauge me for just being a single woman without that much knowledge about cars. I have a 93 Camry, nothing special, but would rather seek out an honest mechanic!

Thanks in advance if you have any leads,

Go to Stan's Service Center on Long Beach road. It's right across from the Island Park LIRR train station. They are the most honest and professional in my experience. I asked a bunch of locals when I first moved to LB and they all use & trust him.

For a while I also used this guy "Gregorio" whose garage is right across the street from DEMI's diner on Long Beach road in Island Park. He is actually the cheapest, but he doesn't speak english well (speaking spanish would be plus if you use him), and the operation is not quite as professional, but he gets the job done cheap - maybe he uses less than "top notch" parts as well.

Stay away from anyone in Long beach proper, and that goes for windows or anything like that....

Good Luck
