From the water's edge map a trip along the north shore and winding hills and neighborhoods eastbound (25A is a rough guide, in and out of neighborhoods), and finish in Port Jeff down by the ferry. It is a reminder that we take our proximity to the water too much for granted. It is also a reminder that I am about 10 million dollars shy of living in Nissequogue...

This is not to slight many of the other areas mentioned, but it is a route I know well. I am a frequent cyclist and this route is beautiful, challenging, and a good workout.

I've driven those roads more times than I can count. I'd be careful on a bike on a lot of those roads, though.

I am a weekend triathlete so I have become pretty adept at staying ahead of the dangerous areas and looking out. The safest thing I try to do is get out early (6am) in the warm months since traffic is so light. I am also only on the busier roads like 25A when necessary. It is a beautiful ride....just slow down when you see me Dman...

Like most people, I'd want to be on the water. The North Shore has some great spots (Nissequogue, Asharoken, Huntington Bay) but I prefer the ocean so my choice would be something beachfront out in the Hamptons. If I didn't have that type of money, I'd be happy to "scale down" to somewhere like Oak Beach, or bayfront in a spot like the Moorings in East Islip.

Great post.

If you got the legs you should continue on up to Belle Terre and around Shore rd through Mt Sinai and North Country through Miller Place.

Soundview Dr through Sound Beach and Rocky Point has some incredible views as welll...then head out to Shoreham, Wading River and Baiting Hollow too.

Stunning.

Dune Rd is - as the name implies - waterfront property; so there are no mansions to see past, because you'd be IN one of them

Dune road has two sides to it. The beach side is the ridiculously expensive side and the bay side is slightly less ridiculously expensive.

For me, I would live back on Herrick Rd in Southampton. Two blocks from the town and three blocks from the beach. Very much a throwback to old Southampton before all the "80's fast money with no class lifestyle" descended on the area.

I used to rent part of a house there and the spring and fall in the Southampton tops anywhere else on this island, and I've lived everywhere from Queens to Montauk. Although, Mattituck is nice too!
