LOL, I was just thinking that I'm the odd person out on this forum because although one of the things I love about Long Island is the ease of getting TO places that are on the water..... I would never want to live ON the water again. Been there/did that for more than 15 years, and as the years went by (and having lived through many Nor'easters AND Hurricane Gloria in 1985) it just became less and less "worth it" to me. Not only the higher taxes and insurance costs, but the flooding, the wind damage, the high water table (south shore) or rocky clay (north shore), bulkheading maintenance, the salt spray playing havoc with my garden plants, etc etc. So now my philosophy regarding waterfront property is "It's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there (again)".

I'd love to live on the water. I love Old Field. I already have my eye on a waterfront mansion in Shoreham village, just in case I ever hit lotto.
If I wasn't going to be on the water, I'd pick Remsenburg. I really like it there.

Remsenburg is on the water, however not all homes there are waterfront. Nearly bought on Remsen Lane in the 90's.

I would move back to Strongs Neck where I spent my summers as a child. Or Old Field. Poquott. Port Jeff Village .

Nancy
Stongs Neck is beautiful but does it still have the magic?
I loved it as a kid, I spent a lot of time on Dyke rd.
I'm saddened to hear about the Watering hole.

No, crooks. I am sure that it does not have the magic that it had in the late fifties. That was a halcyon time to grow up anywhere, I guess. Strongs Neck was so empty then ; we had deer & pheasants in our back yard and each kid had about an acre to himself to build forts (do kids still do that?). That was on Indian Field Road where we would find corn grinders, paint pots and arrowheads all over .
We would take the little boat to Bayles Dock in Port Jeff to get a bottle of coke for 10 cents or bike to Gumbuses where you could buy a whole bag of candy for a quarter.
If only we could go back for just an hour.......

Wow I can only imagine Nancy.
I was only there in the early 80s and it was still a pretty special little hideaway.
Very cool, very open and very laid back.
Great memories.

There used to be a private beach by Mount Sinai/Pt.Jeff called Old Ralph's. Anyone remember this?
