Strangers in Nesconset
Since I moved here there are always (at all times of the day) strangers (always me)ringing my doorbell. Is that a normal thing around here?
Just today I had a young man ring my bell , of course I did not answer ( I never do ) if I don't know the person.
He had a clipboard on him, and after a while of knocking on neighbors doors,(no one answered) a white truck with tinted windows came along and handed him from out the back window a measuring wheel, he knocked on one last door then got into the truck and left.
It's just annoying having people always knocking on your door, anyone else have this problem? Thanks and have a great day

Was it a door-to-door salesman?

I wouldn't open my door to anyone. Get 2 "NO SOLICITORS" signs --- put one on the entrance to your property and one on your screen door.
I don't know who these people are, but I know in other neighborhoods, there are guys who walk around with clipboards claiming to raise money for the Boys and Girls Clubs or something similar and solicit donations. Their ther thing is to buy boxes of candy from Costco or BJs and try to sell them, claiming to be from the Boys & Girls Clubs or some basketball association.

It could be totally innocent, but I never answer the door for anyone I don't know either.
There have been a couple of home invasions involving men who presented themselves as water company employees. A plain white van with tinted windows sounds very suspicious to me.

Well now that its getting warmer out, the Jehovah's witnesses are breaking out their Armani suits and their briefcases and knocking on doors.

Strangers in Nesconset
Thanks for all your replies. The sign is a good idea. The latest someone has been on my doorstep was 9pm, I looked out the window he stood there for a while then walked in the middle of the road into the darkness, its odd its always young men in their 20's , I will never answer the door when I am home alone. They are usually on foot or just pull right up in my driveway.I doubt they are salesmen, they are just dressed casual. T- shirt & jeans.
These days its hard to trust people when you see so mouh bad stuff on the news, its a shame people have to live in fear.
thank you all have a great day

Did you happen to see him measuring anything? Marking the roadway?
Were you able to see the license plates; and if so, write them down?
Is your area expecting any sort of improvements -- sewers, road widening, gas lines, underground utilities??
Is one of your neighbors preparing to engage in excavating for a project?
A while back, a neighbor's house was burglarized in broad daylight. Another neighbor's daughter was outside and she waved to the burglar, mistaking him for the neighbor's illegal tenant. The burglar waved back! The homeowner came home and discovered the burglary. The burglar's car was caught on surveillance video from a house across the way, but the tags weren't legible -- too far away.
While some criminals count on most people not being home, others are downright brazen!

I have family/friends in Nesconset and there has been a recent Verizon/Cablevision push in the area. All night time solicitations to catch people home from work. Usually young men, usually casually dressed. Might be the case. I would highly recommend for your peace of mind that you call the 4th precinct directly and let them know and they can increase their drives through the area and relate it to any other similar calls.
