2 story private house, legal apt on 2nd floor, huge detached garage with expanded loft, small basement on a very busy main road which was not busy back when it was built.

Lets just say family has pics of the blacksmith shop in the general area Fredericks restaurant is presently.

Don't have too much confidence in Zillow, but in the Town of Huntington, you can get everyone's taxes right off the internet. Since you have the address, you can easily see what the REAL TRUE taxes are... Would be curious to know

I wouodn't live there as I'm very picky: and I certainly wouldn't send my kids to the school system. But you may be overstating the case as I believe the crime rate in these places are below the national average.

Long Island as a whole has a very low crime rate.

Thank you for the info.
As you can see, there's nothing like going to the real source! And while true taxes of $4,000 is very rare (and a great deal!), it's still a bit more than Zillow's "zestimate" or the $1,200... Good work

Thanks Elke, that was an interesting site & easy.

Found out the taxes are basically 3x what my family paid but anything under 4K is CHEAP!

Not too sure if youd call RP/SB cheap, but perhaps for the North Shore it's not too bad.

A small house will run you 1500-1800 plus in Rocky Point.
Sound Beach may be a little bit less/Miller Place a little bit more.

Larger Apt your around 1200 Plus/ Larger House 2k plus.

Theres some cool cottages to be had around 900-1100 plus too.

Small basement apartment can go for 7-900 plus
(which seems to be going rate from Nicolls Rd to Wm Floyd)

Theres much less rental stock here than there was a few years back before the boom.
You may fare better in the Tri Hamlet area, but give it a shot, Rocky Point is a great town.

Heres a few

I am single with no kids, so I won't be needing a house, especially one with 4 bathrooms, thats OVERKILL.
I think single room rentals are the way for me
