Default Help/advice on transfer to Holbrook, LI

Ok here goes. I feel a little weird asking the same ol question that some of you might get tired of answering to newbies who dont know about the search button. I'm an old growth here on CD who enjoys helping others, especially in the HOUSE and INTERIOR DESIGN forums.

By now you already peaked up and see I'm in Texas. Make no mistake, I'm no southern hick although I love it here. I grew up in NJ and my Uncle lived his whole life in Dix Hills, Long Island. I remember many a nightmares driving home on the LIE and can imagine how bad is today many years later.

Now for the question if I didn't bore you so far. I was offered a job in Holbrook, Long Island. I dont really have the desire to move back east with the cold and snow but the money offered me is so overwhelming. The problem is we will have to relocate with our home on wheels. We live in our nice motor home on our land. LI is not RV friendly. In fact there is only one private RV park on the whole island out in Greenport. There are a dozen state parks with no hookups, so that dont count.

I turned the job down but they offered me one week to change my mind. I had already gave up due to no real house to move to. I turned it down yesterday and today I'm still thinking about it. It truely is my dream job.

So do anyone of my old NY neighbors have ideas for me? The location is in Holbrook with other locations in Commack and Copiague. I love Copiague. Any private RV places not advertised? Anyone know a private party who rents to full time RVers? This would be for the summer and maybe fall. I know one can not survive in an RV during a NY NJ winter as I lived through 40 of them. By the time winter comes along we could look at normal housing.

Help your old neighbor out. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hmmmm.

I dont think the years have been kind to Copiague.

Riverhead township is somewhat RV trailer friendly.

Good luck

I remembered driving by a mobile home park (not the same thing I think) in Holbrook. Looked it up, and Lincoln Village in Holbrook, NY came up. Not sure if they support RV's as I have little knowledge of how it all works, but the village and location are fine based on my visits to the area. Good luck to you.

Thanks jr. I looked it up and it is an over 55 community. Im just shy of 55. Mobile homes are a manufactured home placed on piers. A motor home is a recreational vehicle/home on wheels. A travel trailer is a camper you tow. Some Mobile home parks take RVs. This one does not but they do have some cheap prices for Holbrook.

Need more help my friends........

The amount offered may seem very high to someone from low-cost Texas, but here on LI the cost of living here will seem astronomical to you once you get here, and that raise you so anticipate won't even begin to cover all of your costs.

I had tenants once from Buffalo, NY, who thought their $13K raise was going to buy them a 3000 sq. ft. house on LI. They sold their house in Buffalo for about $120K (about the price of housing in TX?) and had a good case of sticker shock when they saw that housing in North Huntington costs about 8times that much.

And you're right - LI isn't RV friendly. And you won't be able to live in one over the winter - correction, you could, but it would be difficult.

On the other hand, if it's truly your dream job, then maybe it's time to just go for it.

Moving is a tough decision - but I would think the bottom line is actually what your financial bottom line is.
