Default Commute from Oyster Bay to Downton NYC?

Hey all -

I was wondering if anyone knows how the commute is going from Oyster Bay, LI to Wall Street, NYC.

I know that a lot of folks drive to either syosset or hicksville to catch the train because the OB LIRR line is unreliable.

Is this the best option?

I am hoping to keep the wretched commute time to less than an hour and a half if possible.

thanks for the help,

From Oyster Bay to downtown, 2 hrs each direction on a good day, 1hr 25 mins to Penn Station or Hunterspoint then you have to hope your subway is there w/in a couple of minutes for the 20-30 min ride to downtown. Keep in mind, with the MTA service cuts, budget cuts, & fare increases coming soon, you eventually could be waiting quite awhile at Hunterspoint or Penn for a train downtown. The OB line is reliable just painfully slow for the 21st century. The commuting times on that line have been the same for over 50 years. You're probably better off from Syosset. I don't envy your commute but best of luck!

Hunterspoint? Why bother? If you're looking for an alternative to getting downtown, Flatbush Ave. is the way to go.

And yes, the commute from Oyster Bay isn't all that great.

My friend lived in Mill Neck for years and drove to Hix for the train. OB line has less trains !
I think there is still a parking problem at Hicksville because the town parking garage was torn down .. you have to park at Broadway Mall now I believe...

you are better off taking the train from oyster bay station. It will take you at least 15 if not 20 mins to drive to Hicksville train station, find parking at the mall, take the shuttle to the station, etc. You won't save much time. OB station has ample parking which is free, no permit required. Total travel time to Penn is 1 hr 20. If you leave early in the am you can try Syosset but you won't find any parking there after 7:20 am.

Remember though there are many many more trains to/from Hix. vs Oyster Bay. This is a consideration especially if you are working late in NYC.
