Belmont Park Neighbors Blast State on Hotels Casino Plan
All of the desolation of Atlantic City, comes to Long Island.
OH BOY, we couldn't wait, could we ? Or could we ?
Just what we need right now, an "expensive", FURTHER, ghetto-ization of Long Island !
It's going to be like CLOCKWORK ORANGE, but paler, in neighborhoods like Elmont ! Goody Goody !

Other than that you don't like it, what's wrong with the plan? Do share your insight.
These hit-and-run posts are getting fatiguing.

Well, it beats "rolling over" and letting these interests, descimate the Island into a carbon-copy of Atlantic City, isn't it ?
Here's a preview of what may becoming to your Long Island !
Uniform Crime Reports and Index of Crime in Atlantic in the State of New Jerse enforced by Atlantic City from 1985 to 2005

How are these negative thing linked to a hotel being granted the right to run a casino?
Post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy.

I like Floral Park and parts of Elmont, but that Belmont area...near the racetrack?
We used to go to the Flea Market over there and there were a couple of little bars...
What a far cry from the area we used to hang out back in the day.
I say BUILD IT...do it
Lemme get my gamble on!...
(minus the long bus ride to AC or Mohegan Sun).
Maybe it will make the area better.
(Hell, can it get much worse?)

I grew up in Floral Park and with the exception of the Belmont Stakes, and the traffic and people that came through the town on that weekend, the impact of the racetrack was insignificant from what saw. However, knowing how this village works, they would fight this tooth and nail to protect their little mayberry territory from any negative impact anything affiliated with the track (And I would not blame them). The village is nice for many reasons (and also a PIA). Their track record is good at going after quality of life issues with a consistent pursuit of JFK airport for the flight patterns over the town, to the frequent summer helicopter travels out to the hamptons using the LIRR as their path out. THey also went after the MTA when they proposed having the Q43 bus come into Floral Park to make drops at the railroad station. While the neighboring areas surrounding the racetrack fall into the Elmont umbrella, and there are many nicer areas of Elmont, this area does not fall into that category. This area around the track was Skellmont. The few blocks falling under South Floral Park (not associated with the Village of FP) were no better. But I expect this to gain no traction. It will meet lots of multi-level government and civil opposition.

What reasons are there to believe that this would "decimate" the island?
By the way, "decimate" means to kill every tenth person.
