Need a local laptop repair person
The DC Jack on my Sony VAIO PCG-K35 has broken so I cannot charge the battery or plug it in the use AC power. I know this is the only issue because the jack has always been loose and finally gave way to being broken. I ordered the part from eBay but never really cared to get into the down and dirty world of soldering or small electronic repair. I found someone in Centereach who will install it for me for $75 but I don't want to drive all the way out there (I am in Merrick). Of course I will if I have to but if I can find a good local guy who won't rip me off I would happily deal locally.
thanks!

what about the Micro Center in Westbury off of Merrick Road?
I heard from experienced computer people that they take their computers there for repair over Best Buy. Call and get a price for that type of repair.

A similar issue with the DC jack happened recently with my Dell laptop. It was loose (from falling and landing on the back as it was charging) and the connection was inconsistent. Finally it stopped so I was in the same predicament as you. I had a computer friend solder it for me and I watched him since I had never soldered before. Its actually a very simple 5 minute procedure. The hardest part is taking your laptop apart and making sure to put to back together correctly and carefully. I happen to be pretty good with computers so I did the taking apart and he did the soldering. The worst thing about notebooks is that everything is integrated in the motherboard so it makes repairs expensive and tricky.
