Default The truth about Manorhaven please

Is Manorhaven, PW SO bad? I love PW but the so called "good areas" are too expensive for us. Our budget is under 500K. Are there any good areas in Manorhaven? Any other ideas?? Thanks!

All the areas in Manorhaven are good. Dont listen to what is written here on some forums...its not true!

I have lived in Manorhaven for 50 years and have never had a problem with crime of any kind. This is a neighborly community with a church, a synagogue, schools, shops, resturants, park/pool and marinas. It is a great place to raise a family!

Port North will become famous soon enoughPort North will become famous soon enough
Manorhaven is more blue-collar than the rest of Port so that is why some people may have a negative impression of it.

My observation is that some streets have a high number of absentee rentals and thus are a little run down (but certainly not ghetto), while others are well kept and beautiful.

The area is really diverse, there are lots of older Italian folks and blue collar white families mixed with central American immigrants (both legal and illegal) and a fair number of Asians too. It also seems to be popular with mixed race couples (especially where one spouse is white and the other Hispanic). There are also higher income people that live in condos along the water. For a suburban neighborhood it really is kind of unique. They even have a community of houseboats!

The area has a nice park (Manorhaven Park) with a very nice pool and a great playground. People from all over Port use it. There is also an awesome pizzaria called La Piccola Angelina http://www.lapiccolaangelina.com/ . Definately the best pizza in Port!

There was a problem a few years back with burgleries and vandalism but since the NCPD started focusing more attention on the area it has improved and I haven't heard of any problems lately.

If you want to live in other areas of Port there are houses that occasionally pop up in areas outside of Manorhaven for under 500K. There is a very small house in my neighborhood (The Terrace) that is listed for only 349K. There are others right around or just over 500K that are on decent streets.

Good Luck and welcome to Port! Don't let people who know nothing about the area scare you away from it.

Default For those who may not be familiar with Manorhaven

For those who may not be familiar with Manorhaven:

Manorhaven is a village (incorporated in 1930) in the northeast part of the Town of North Hempstead, in the northwest part of Nassau County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Manorhaven in the Town of North Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Village of Sands Point; on the east by the Village of Port Washington North; on the south by Manhasset Bay; and, on the west by Manhasset Bay and the Village of Sands Point.

Manorhaven is one of those villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the village name as part of their mailing address: all places in the Village of Manorhaven have a "Port Washington, NY 11050" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html
