Default Lenox Hill, Farmingdale

After searching for several months, we narrow down the location to Bethpage and farmingdale. My husband and I quite like lenox hill, farmingdale. But the taxes is really incredibly high. Does anyone know about the Lenox Hill? The neighourhood looks very nice. Thanks a lot!

Hi, I live in Farmingdale, not Lenox Hills but do know a lot in general about Farmingdale. I am originally from Bethpage. I know a lot of people in the Lenox Hills area send their children to private school. Farmingdale schools are not as desireable as Bethpage. Lenox Hills is a beautiful area BUT as I said, the schools are not great. Northside Elementary, which is the elementary school that is affiliated with Lenox Hills and the area I live in is rated the worst 2nd elementary school in the district. If you do a search on greatschools.net, you can learn a lot about the district. I graduated from Bethpage in 1992 and my mom works in the district these days. The school has gotten much better since I attended BUT they are finding issues with some areas in Bethpage (the numbered streets and could be surrounding areas) due to Grumman dumping everything into the soil years and years ago. I know a report recently came out that some people have bad vapors in their house due to the Grumman site. These vapors are toxic and I believe the Navy is preparing to clean up people's homes. What a mess! I've also been informed that whatever Grumman dumped into the soil is also traveling south along the plume for the drinking water which is very dangerous. I was hoping to move back to Bethpage but after hearing all this, we are thinking twice. I'd hate to be in a house for 10 years and then find out I have vapors seeping inside from whatever Grumman did in the area. I believe you can do a search on google about Bethpage and Grumman and vapors and you will eventually come across something. A few years ago they tore down the entire Bethpage Community Park b/c that was also toxic. They cleaned that area up and built a brand new ice skating rink.

If you are looking for a better school district, Bethpage takes the cake.

I know a lot of people in Lenox Hills that have their children in Farmingdale Schools and actually like Northside very much. There are only 4 elementary schools in the Farmingdale district so calling Northside "2nd worst" is somewhat misleading. By the way, IMO, greatschools.net is not a very reliable source of information as it's just opinion based and rankings are supplied by anyone who signs up. This does not take away anything from Bethpage, which does have very high quality schools. However I would suggest to the OP to measure what is most important to them and do plenty of research. I believe they will find that F'dale can offer a high quality education as well. So far I'm pleased with F'dale Schools and what they have been offering my children in the way of education.

Lenox Hills and Old Lenox Hills are both wonderful neighborhoods. They are among the pricier areas of Farmingdale and tend to have somewhat larger homes than other areas of F'dale. In this market you can probably get quite a bit for your money in comparison to other areas of LI. These areas are also somewhat isolated as there is no commercial activity in the area, however that does make it quiet and private. The golf courses are right next door as well and are an easy walk from most of Lenox Hills, so if you're a golfer that is a plus. The taxes do tend to run high since these areas are part of the Village of Farmingdale. VOF has additional taxes that unincorporated areas of Farmingdale do not pay.
