What makes Mastic So bad?
I was just wondering why ppl say Mastic & Mastic Beach is bad. I hear the SD are bad but what makes you think they are bad? Whats wrong with the reservation and neighborhood rd? I am just curious. I know compared to other parts of LI it might not be the best but what makes it the worst to some of you? I am sure not all the ppl who live there are ghetto fab ppl. Just curious since I might buy in that area. I am hispanic with a white fiancee and a 1 yr old baby (Maybe ppl will think we are trashy if we move there and we def are not!!)

Well before everyone gets to you about gang-bangers, rape, drugs, sex offenders and all the rest of the hysteria I'd just like you to know that I graduated from William Floyd HS. It's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I never encountered bullying or any real crime. Yeah you had drugs but so does every school. If your kid wants to learn then they will learn. I participated in every sport I could and they have all of them. I lived down Neighborhood road. Nobody tried to shoot at me, nobody tried to rob me, nobody tried to sexually assault me(and I'm not exactly bad looking) And I turned out fine. I have a great job, I make a good living and contrary to what EVERYONE else on this board will tell you I am the norm, not the exeption. I can go on and on with friends of mine who have done the same. The area does have rough edges that I can't lie about. You teach your kids whats right and you'll have no problems.

Poospatuck Indian Reservation is probably one of the greatest reasons.

Mastic Beach is getting better all the time
I am a professional and I love Mastic Beach. I have lived here 8 years. I am proud to live in a very diverse neighborhood..not without its problems and share of bad element but what neighborhood is? Those that profess it are deluding themselves. We live in God's heaven on earth. The only affordable waterfront on Long Island. We have to root out the slum landlords. Please visit local businesses...we need to keep them open...Crispy Crust Breads..(great stuff!) MommyLou's Cheesecake...MMMMMM! Mastic Beach is getting better all the time!

I bought a house in Mastic Beach last year and have been loving it. Got a great deal on the property and I am 6 blocks from the ocean, what more could you ask for? My neigborhood is pretty quiet I ride my mountain bike alot and havent really seen anything but a few run down buildings and some lawns that need mowing. We are working out the bugs

OMG you wil die there....... lol it's not as bad as people make it... though there are some serious issues...and breaking away from brookhaven town i don't believe is the answer...
Making the inc town village is just the lazy answer to making the trip over to BHT and demanding they get on the ball of fixing the problem....if as many people bombarded BHT as they did show up at the firehouse....you would be amazed how quickly things changed...
Absentee landlords are another issue.
Mosquitoes...lack of spraying...rust for the car (see zincs)
The other big issue for the area...and for any waterfront neighborhood is Hurricanes.... In the event of even a small Cat 1 hurricane hitting L.I. at high tide....Mastic beach will be hurting.... A Cat 1 hurricane you can easily add another 8' to 12' of tide..where a normal tide is at street level.. .. Gloria hit at dead low...
The neighborhood has kinda started in the right direction though....but if the neighborhood doesn't communicate with each other the issues aren't going to change...
The needing of some answer for the pedophile issue is a concern as is the drug and alky houses...
Like we did in my neighborhood i grew up in, we beat the
Moderator cut: language removed
...so they left...not knowing where the next one was coming from....you moved in and sold drugs....you became the neighborhood stress relief....not the same there either....
The kids kept the neighborhood clean....nowadays the kids ruin it...
The majority of the world changed, for the complacent, apathy stricken community...
It's why these issues are what they are...
Example.....Tea parties should be attended by thousands...not handfuls and hundreds..waiting for someone else...
