Default EAST ISLIP - What is this area like for a young professional?

Hi,
I've lived in brooklyn all my life. I've finally decided to move and start my life and i'm thinking of purchasing a home in East Islip. I'm a quiet person; professional and mature. I have some concerns and would love feedbacks on the following:

1) What is the relationship like among different races? To be more specific - black & white relationship?
2) What is the daily life like for a Mature individual - 30's?
3) Traveling to work to the city - what is that like on a daily basis? Is there and abundant parking spaces at the train station (Islip or Great Plains)?
4) What is the cost of living like?
5) How friendly are the individuals?
6) Is the crime rate high?
7) Are there many Single woman homeowners out there? and how is life for you?

Thank you in advance for the feedbacks.
Lifeanew

1. its pretty much a completely white neighborhood, although i dont see there being any problems for any other races living there

3. great river train station is pretty small and doesnt have much parking, but then again i dont think that its a very busy station

4. cost of living is pretty high because the taxes are high and so are home prices. a small starter home that needs some work can easily run $400k and have $8000+/yr taxes

5. seems to be a very friendly community, especialy south of montauk hwy. Good sense of community there

6. crime rate is low, its definitley one of the best areas in the Town of Islip

1. There isn't much racial diversity in East Islip. I think it's 95% white, but I've never heard of any problems within the community.

2. Daily life is pretty laid back. Access to the beaches and Heckscher give you ample outdoors life. There isn't a ton of nightlife, save for some bars around the area. The restaurants are pretty good around the area.

3. It's a 1hr 15-30 minute train ride to Midtown during peak times and about the same amount back. You can use the Great River train station, parking isn't that difficult if you don't get there too late. The Islip Train station is much more crowded. The Central Islip Train Station is pretty close and has much more parking and a lot more trains during peak hours.

4. The cost of living is actually quite high. Depending on where you live in Brooklyn, it can actually be higher. The food is actually fairly expensive i.e. pizza, chinese, restaurants and such. However, the quality is higher than what I found in all but the very upscale parts of Brooklyn.

5. People are exceptionally friendly. I don't know about the single scene, but people here will say high to you, hold the door, and are fairly cordial. For the most part, is an area where people are still accountable for their actions to each other and thus, have a lot more respect towards each other.

6. No. A couple of years ago a few home invasions happened. That's the last crime I've heard of in EI.

7. You will find a lot of families in the area. I don't know about the singles scene in EI, it's a pretty quiet family neighborhood. I'm sure there is some, at some of the Irish bars and such, but I'm married so I probably just don't notice it. It's pretty much a blue-collar working class area that marry fairly young and have families. Salt of the Earth type people! As you can tell, I love it!

Thank you for the feedbacks. I lost my prospect of getting my dream house in the area due to foul play from the agents. Heart broken. I'm looking for another area in long island to live since the other houses are to pricey for me.
