I wanted opinions about OTHER areas in Nassau - as I wrote, more densely-populated areas.

The answer to your question in my opinion is more or less, no, there is little to nothing for the specifications you listed. Best bet would probably be to rent of another 1-3 yrs save up a larger down payment and let salaries increase some until either you can afford in the 400 range or the market has come down more, which is a possibility.

I have plenty for a down payment. I can put down 50% if I feel like it. We are actually planning to rent to see if we can even tolerate living on LI. I gave a sale price only to indicate the area the house would be in - an area where homes cost $350.

I wouldn't look on the south shore if you want your husband to have an easy commute to Hauppague. Massapequa is a great place to live, but again, its on the south shore. If you want to be close to the LIE neither of these towns fit. And Massapequa has hardly any diversity. Baldwin has diversity, but not the kind you want.
Obviously you are not interested in being polite, as evidenced by your last few posts. Almost every post of yours on this thread has been an argument with another poster.

Unfortunately, Nassau is more expensive than Suffolk (by and large) and $350k is a tough budget period, much less with your criteria. The other things you want don't come cheaply.

You won't get a nice house in a TOP school district in Nassau COunty for less than $500K. Top school districts in Nassau County are Jericho, Syosset, Garden City and some parts of Cold Spring Harbor district are in Nassau...but the absolute least you will spend in these towns is $650K for a small house that needs work. Jericho and Syosset are predom Jewish and have some Asians. For $350K you will be living near the bloods and the crips or on the side of the LIE. Those are the facts.

You can buy in Plainview and parts of Syosset in the $400s. You can also squeeze into Williston Park in Herricks SD at that price level, but the houses are small. (Herricks is 45% Asian but I don't know how much is south Asian and how much east.) I mention that because the OP asked about Mineola before, which isn't really what she wants demographically. Jericho still starts at close to $600K (and to be honest, I think you can walk to more in Plainview anyway--the main streets are busy but nothing like 106/107 and Jericho Turnpike).

For the criteria you have listed the neighborhoods that meet it are generally middle to upper-middle class (leaning heavily on the upper-middle class side).
Oceanside would meet some of the criteria, large Jewish population, pretty liberal, but isn't quite as diverse, the schools are good (though not in the realm of Plainview/Syosset and Jericho) and the commute for your husband will be a bit tougher.
Unless if you low-ball a bit and happen to get lucky your really not going to find much of anything in the criteria you mentioned under $350,000. If you can move up into the upper 300's or lower 400's, you could have a few options in Plainview and a little less, but perhaps a few in Syosset as well (Jericho has zero chance) These homes will probably need some work, and the options will be very limited, but you will at least something to look at if your able to move your budget more towards $400,000 or so.
Something else you could look into is a short sale or foreclosure, but that would probably be very limited as well. While I am sure they haven't been completley immune from the foreclosures, the higher incomes in the area likely reduce the amount of foreclosure issues you will have around Plainview, Syosset, etc.

Why not just hire a driver for the days your husband needs it???? You can either have the driver drive your car/use your gas or have the driver use his/her car and you pay for his/her gas.
