He won't bring that up. On another thread they went nuts over the CI teacher who makes over $200K with his afterschool and summer school activities as an "anamoly." He also will compare LI teachers as "professionals with master's degrees" who should earn equivalent to what NYC professionals earn. Never mind that the average private sector wage on LI is pitiful compared to that of NYC and the teacher world is topsy turvy where the NYC teacher is compensated much less than the LI teacher.
Agreed. They seem to be fairly selective in which arguments and information they want to run with. A comprehensive ... and accurate ... look at the whole picture is what's needed, not a sound-bite set of rants.
Same goes for LI public school teachers. It is insane to argue that one is "bad off" compared to the other. Think about it!
LI teachers are paid significantly less than the cops and work onyl slightly less than the cops. the cops require minimal education, and do not pay into healthcare or pensions, which they inflate.
Guess what - being paid for sick days is an anamoly! Just because a few spare employers do pay out for sick days (I'd like to know who) doesn't mean it's a benefit afforded to everyone.
And the 200k teacher is not nearly as bad as the cops who cash out 450k worth of sick and vacation time. Teachers must contribute to their healthcare and their pension - cops do not.
Another deflection. Can't argue the issue of how much cops actually work, so let's attack their payouts, healthcare and benefits.
Hey, skippy, did you know that it's the state that sets the pension parameters, not the county? That's not part of contract negotiations.

So now we agree that teachers work less days per year than cops? Wow, that was a quick 180. You were adamant no more than 15 minutes ago. Doing the math really does help, doesn't it.

Cops do actually work more than teachers, I'll admit that. But that's because they get the OT. Counting only straight time, cops work only slightly more than teachers, but for 50% more money on average.

You're still wrong. On all counts. Do some real research before you post. Otherwise it's just opinions.

This is over.
I guess both the NYT and post wrote factually incorrect articles... I guess anything that speaks negatively about police compensation and days off is factually incorrect also no matter what. thanks for clearing that up, officer
Interesting perspective on the resident cop defenders mindset. Every newspaper tells lies about the cops..the right wing rag, the established rag...it is only the PBA and its member who tell the truth.

Yes, in actual days teachers work less but it's because the cops have significantly less straight time. The cops were more but that's because it's on overtime.
line of duty deaths:
suffolk county: 24
nassau county:24
ny state police: 114
and as to officer ciano...his emergency lights were on at the time of the crash. he was hit by a repeat offender who used his vehicle as a weapon.
I have plenty of common sense..get your facts straight. apply for a permit for a gun if you want one so bad. as long as you dont have a criminal background, you can get one. although it is hard, but still can be done.
By you saying that the guy used the car as a weapon, do you think that the guy who hit the officer did so only because he was a cop? You don't think it was just the luck of the draw that he killed a cop that night and not someone coming home from work or a friends house? I mean, it's terrible that officer Ciano lost his life because of some moron..I truly sympathize..but how many people on LI who weren't cops have been killed by drunks? This is hardly a death the PBA can use to prove how dangerous it is to be a cop. It's dangerous to DRIVE on LI, period.
As for the other deaths, what period of time does that cover?
