Grass4 is on a distinguished road
I live right on a main road in Nassau and it is awful. Right now it's raining and the traffic is so loud. Plus the world's worst drivers (Long Island) honk for no reason at every hour of the day. I can't wait to get out of this miserable town, in this miserable location.

Unless youre in Muttontown or The Hamptons.

If it has a double yellow line...it sucks.

We're one block off of Merrick Road and Sunrise Highway - smack in the middle, but we really don't hear anything from either. Occasionally we hear the LIRR train whistle at night, which is nice, or ambulance sirens from South Nassau Communities Hospital, but that's a rarity.

We've always used the "No Double Yellow Line Roads" rule too! I'm super noise-sensitive.

You can get fooled, too, by roads that are not "main" but are a straight-run cut-through between two main roads. Such roads get a lot of traffic that you wouldn't expect unless you make time to park on it at different times of the day to see firsthand how busy it is.

There was a house in southern East Northport that we passed on for exactly that reason. I forget the street name but it connected two busy north/south main roads in a straight line. Not only was it busy but people were zipping along it well in excess of the normal residental street speed limit.

My fiance lives one road off Montauk highway, just 3 houses away. I don't hear the cars, but I hear the ambulances all the time since they live right by a hospital. I guess if you don't mind the sound of sirens every 10 minutes, it would be fine.

I currently live on a very busy street. The noise isn't too bad because the traffic is always on the move. It can be annoying at times when firetrucks, cops, etc go by with their sirens blaring but that only lasts a few seconds.

Before moving here, I lived on a side street no where near a main road and I couldn't stand it. The neighbor across the street would constantly have his car radio booming with a base tape at all hours and there were neighbors who thought nothing of having "parties" going until 3 or 4 am with blasting music all night long.

I prefer living on a main/busy street.

I couldve gotten much more house on a main rd.

We chose less and a cul de sac.

For children...were glad we did.

This is true in most areas and there are obvious reasons why. Same as you, my kids are reason #1 I never even considered living on a main road.

You couldnt pay me.

And there were some tempting deals with 25%+ more Sq Ft.

We went with LLL and safety first.

Never regretted it.
