Where to live - one commute to NYC, one to Huntington

Bayside isn't quite all the way east--going along 25A, you have Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck. As I mentioned above, the latter two are lovely but pricey (and quieter). This is the best line for commuting as well--LIRR Port Washington Line, very speedy into Penn. There's nothing wrong with the central part of eastern Queens (Glen Oaks, Floral Park, Bellerose--the latter two are areas that straddle the city line) but it's not as lively IMO. Also, there are parts of eastern Queens that are very far from the bus or subway, which can make for a tricky commute.

If I remember correctly, one party will be working in Huntington - the further north you are, the further away from the highways in many areas = more time spent on the road...

As most here know, I'm partial to Huntington (with Babylon a close 2nd) . You might want to check it out before dismissing it. Great downtown, parks, entertainment, food, shops, etc., etc.

There is that, but Bayside proper isn't far from either Northern Boulevard or the LIE, plus you have the Cross Island and the Clearview. Only Bay Terrace would be an issue, and even that has access to the Cross Island. My sister lives in Bayside and I never have a problem getting from here (Melville) to hers. The issue with Huntington will be the distance from the parkways if s/he is working further north.

I rented a newish two bedroom 2 blocks from the train for $1400 which i thought was pretty reasonable. My neighbor had a 1 bedroom in the same complex for $1150.

May I ask where in Bayside? Is there any way to contact the landlord/management company? Also, how bad is the parking scene there?

This was on 212 st at 42nd. Right by the train, post office and center of town. There are numerous apts there. My roomate got it through a RE agent.

Parking was a hassle since it was near the train, depending on when you wanted to park, but it was often a 3 block or more walk to the apt and some times had to drive around for 10 mins until something opens up or you decide to part further away than you would like. The further from the train the easier the parking.

You can get apts through craigslist or go to a RE agent office on bell blvd in town. Good chance you have to pay a realtor fee.
